The red ship is my father's workplace

He is the electrician. This ship was design and build in "Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo" (Viana do Castelo Shipyard) here in Portugal:

Yes, unfortunately. But if fishing cod is the same as hijacking ships... Its an old problem with the Norwegian authorities, we are fishing their cod, and they are losing money, I think I don't need to say more.

I'm sorry but if any country is foolish enough (and this includes Britain) to surrender its right to self governance and sovereignty over its (former) territorial water, then it deserves to lose its fish to another country.

It's a bit like saying to your neighbours "Lets all share our wordly posessions" and then getting really miffed when they actually do that.

I'm surprised at Norway though; I know they've signed memorandums of understanding with the EU, but I didn't realise they have sold out their coast. The land of the vikings too!

NB: This is not a pop at Portugul, which is Britains oldest ally! Fair play to any country which can get one over on another like this.

Portugal

Spitsbergen Treaty is, I think what's allow us to fish in their seas, but Norwegian authorities are very "protective" and I understand that, its their cod, I would like if Portugal was like that.... $:-\$ and we have a large coast.

Perhaps if every country with a coast fished in its own waters and left others alone then it would be easier to get on with our neighbours.

I recently went to a North East fishing port in England and found the fishing fleet decimated over the past 5 years since I'd been there- EU quotas and European trawlers with 'interesting' interpretations of the EU charters- the amount of 'foreign' ships that are in our waters.

Still, I do not blame the Spanish, French or Portugese people for the fact that we were so stupid to scrap our fleets to appease Europe. I squarely blame our own government. I don't know what the mechanism is that allows you to fish in Norway, but presumably Norwegian Vikings

can come and fish in Portugals water?

In any case, since yesterday we are all part of the same magnificent superstate anyway, comrade citizen.

Portugal is losing it's fleet, it's not the same that it was 50 years ago...this is sad, my country like yours have a enormous maritime tradition... Our latest trawler was built in Spain

and we have excellent shipyards, or we had.

Portugal has a fantastic rich history of maritime exploration... sadly, like Britain, I think your education system and general social structure no longer teaches this. France, Belgium, America (as examples) DO teach this which is why they have social structure and pride in their country, where as here it is falling apart.

Unfortunately I think that students, and people in general, just remember Portuguese discoveries and maritime tradition and general history in history classes, after that their memory resets

I agree with you totally. However, people assume that if you say you have pride in your country then you are racist etc.

That is total rubbish. I have pride (still) in Britain, but I like people from many (most/all) other countries.

Here are some pics of the approach on Aveiro and the ship berth in the harbour.

We were docked behind de Arklow Rock, and after one or 2 days after a very old russian ship.
At the same time there was a 150 mtr ship unloading cement or concrete.

We had loaded steel in Sczcin,Poland and discharged it in Aveiro, very nice harbour, and theres docked a very nice ferry, dont know the name anymore. It was blue.

No, im not captain, stil on school.
I managed to work on this ship this summer holiday.
It is a big adventage for me, I know for what im learing and what sailing is, learned a lot.
On the bridge the captain teached me how to work whit a Sextant, in the Engine room i learned things about the Engine.
And some deck things, the place where i was the most of the time, liked to work on deck, nice deckcrew but captain/officer will be my future job

There 6 sisterships of the Perfect. 2 are still being build in the shipyard, maybe there will come a other ship to Aveiro, the Perect will soon transport windmills for 2 months from Rostock to Zeebrugge

Maybe next year i come again and i will let you know
