Hi guys,

Unfortunately I've had to remove my graphics card out of my system due to a very loose power connector on the card itself. It's been giving me a serious headache and I finally took the plunge and removed it out of my system.

It's a sad day, because I will no longer be able to play ship simulator (unless someone is willing to sell a agp graphics card) but for now, I'm stuck using a SIS 6326 8mb. Trouble is, I cannot find any drivers that will work with XP.

All I can find for my PCI card is the 98 and win 2000 drivers. So, unless anyone has a spare card lying around and would let it go for not that much, I'm stuck without being able to play SS

That really stinks, did you check Ebay? I know that is not the most reliable place for things but in certain situations

Win 2K drivers are usually identical to the XP versions (the kernel is identical).

Try installing the Win 2K drivers. You might have to right click on the setup file and select compatibility and set it to Windows 2000 in order to get it to install.

Hi Terry,

With these particular drivers I did not get a setup file, just a few files (dll, security catalogues ect.)

Windows found drivers for my PCI card and installed them ok, but after a reboot the screen is still very slow. for instance, web pages scroll down slowly, sound is choppy when scrolling ect, as if you've not installed the correct drivers. I am running a 1280 x 1024 resolution though, this card is very old and only has 8mb of memory.

I could really do with another AGP card in an ideal world...

And because I'm so good, here are the Windows 2000 SIS 6326 drivers. Run the "UPDATE.exe" file in compatibility mode and you should be OK.

Fingers crossed.

It might be that the installer won't run properly, even with a lot of coaxing.

And almost certainly, with only 8Mb of memory, that card will struggle, no matter what drivers are installed.

those are the most recent drivers, and they're eleven years old...

I ran update.exe, rebooted but it's still the same. It's as if the drivers haven't been installed, yet they have. The screen is drawing at a very slow rate, as if I have just put in a new card, and not installed the drivers.

Any ideas?

See above. That may be the best you will ever get from a very old card.

You could try reducing the screen size.

Strange though, as when I use these cards in a XP computer (admittedly a low spec machine) with a crt monitor they seem to perform perfectly fine.

As soon as I use it on my system with a TFT it becomes slow and the draw rate is slow. Work that one out? Perhaps lower resolutions might help?

EDIT: My Dxdiag should it be any use...

That is a shame Adam, make sure you check Ebay and such. I know what it feels like, not being able to enjoy SS, I'm sure that before long you will be able to play it again.

I keep my eye on eBay, but do I just buy something crappy or save a few quid and buy a decent computer?

Truth of the matter is, I'm finding getting the work in is proving to be harder and harder.....

Hi everyone,

A bit happier, as I've nicked the card from the PC downstairs (ATI Radeon 9550 SE) and replaced it with my old card. Funny thing is, my old and better card runs without a hitch downstairs, yet it crashes on my system up here.

Well anyway, at least I can successfully run windows properly, but it's unknown if ship sim will run yet. Need to install it and find out hehe

So, a BIT happier, at some kind of consolation

Haha it feels like it's the end of the world - well it is a little bit, but I'm fine. I just use my computer for a lot of things, and for it to play up so that it's barely usable is just annoying and saddening.

Ho hum, at least I have it working though
