What was the original name of this ship, built in 1926 as a whaler & then through continuous conversions, what's her current name as a beautiful tall ship?

Speaking of restored ships, what is the name of this ship? She was built in Britain and has an incredible story.
Built in 1862, and commissioned for use on the worlds highest lake..

What an amazing story, till 1914 with steam engine and lama-dung fired

Still alive as a museum ship.

Yavari is right. What is also incredible is that she had to be dismantled for transport, and the final stage to the lake was done with mules carrying the parts..

Lake Victoria also has old interesting ships, but not that old

Next question:

This was a passengership sailing between Copenhagen and an Baltic Island.
In 1963 or 1965 it had the honour of being portrayed on a British Commonwealth Stamp.

What was the ships name, and the reason it was portrayed on the stamp?

The ships name was Bornholm.

In 1961 the population of Tristan Da Cunha was evacuated to UK due to a volcanic eruption.

In 1963 the tristonians returned to the island onboard MS Bornholm.

Yes but I thought it was included, googling pictures for 'ship british commonwealth stamps 1965'
shows the stamp if browsing a little down.

In the earlier question MV Anastasis (which was the correct answer), it was so easy googling picures of mercyships, so I just researched it to the original name MS Victoria.

Next time I will remember posting a clue after a couple of hours

The first stamp in my seaman's book as a cadet.

The Canberra was a turbo electric steamship and, as far as I know, the first large ship in the World to have AC propulsion. Technologically she was way ahead of her time when she was built, although by the time i sailed on her she was considered a bit of a dinosaur, she went to scrap in 1997, not many ships being built now will last for 36 years.

Hello Clanky,

What was specific to the propulsion of SS Canberra, when compared to a pre-WWII turbo-electric ship? The electric turbo-alternators of another ship drove 3-phase motors coupled to each of the 4 propellers of this liner, the speed reduction being achieved by the number of poles and by the turbine speed.
The younger SS Canberra electric propulsion was indeed certainly much more modern, particularly concerning materials, voltage control, or even electronics.
Which ship was that?
