Ship Simulator Extremes-unlocking the secrets
« on: February 14, 2009, 16:46:56 »

Perhaps we take a look at the Ship Simulator 2010 trailer and see what we see, but are not realizing that we are seeing. Lets start off with a wave limit in harbours. As it appears in the trailer, that VSTEP has either taken the limit away (Not likely) or made the limit higher. Because if you look in this picture, it is obvious that those waves are much higher than our current limit in harbours. The mountains behind all the ships makes it obvious that it is not an open ocean. See what I'm talking about.

Ahoy Ship(sim)mates
No secret at all. What You see in the teaser is the Strait of Dover. And as the Strait is a part of the English Channel the wave hights are the same as in open water, and NOT as in an harbour.

Again, no secret. Vstep tells us in the teaser: "From the Tropics to the Antarctic" so it's public.

I hope so,

Dover - Calais is about 20 miles, and the current Marseille map covers about the same area, so it's possible that Dover and Calais could be in the same map...

True, but the picture shows very rough seas, so unless Ship Sim removes the Harbour Wave Restriction, we may get the straits without the port...

It would be nice to be able to do the complete crossing without changing maps as well...

Although if we have Dover, will we be getting a Dover ferry (or two) to use, if so, it will probably be a P&O, since P&O already let us use the Rotterdam...

Well, I shure hope that the wave height is limited in Dover harbor.

Biceaus it wouldn't be realistic to moore a ship in 5m waves inside Dover harbor.

edit: Just a second to late for The Ferry Man  :P

I can't see them giving us a fully functional Dover port without a cross channel ferry coming into the game along the way  ;)

Although this is a bit of fun, and for that it's OK, please don't get the idea that anyone posting above is making any promises. And the ones that post below won't know, either.  ;D

Even those of us that know what's planned aren't sure what will be and what will not be, yet. Too many variables involved.

That would involve you deleting the current account and creating a new one, so it's not a decision you'd want to take lightly.

Perhaps in SS10, outside the harbour walls the sea is normal sea conditions and inside the harbour it will be calmer as if the harbour walls do what they do in real life. Shelter the harbour from rough waves. ;)
I'm not saying this is the case, but it would be nice. :)

The sea model in Ship Simulator Pro provides two separately controlled seas—one for sheltered areas. I don’t know if this will be part of the 2010 sea model.

I remember in a response to one of his videos, Pjotr said that the wave limit in SS10 will be 14m, the kind you get in 12 bft.

I'll try to find it again.

EDIT: Here is the link: http://vimeo.com/2027222 (http://vimeo.com/2027222)

Read some of the comments by Pjotr.
