Flight Simulator X
« on: January 22, 2009, 21:27:50 »

In this topic you can discuss all or flight simulator X experiences. (I know this would be done to a FSX forum but I would like to hear your ideas, even if you hate the game, say why)

Good, although I am more into the rotating kind if you know what I mean. And there is not allot of heli add-ons.

Best to play it is to have pedals and joystick or joystick with twist handle, I have joystick with twist handle.. I must say that without joystick it's not worth to play. It's very good game and I have learned a lot.. I've even flown a real plane with my friend and he said "I see you have practiced with simulator".

I recommend it to all who like simulators or aviation.

I LOVE IT ;D. Just to reply to the quirey about heli-addons I think just flight do two good ones and the default merlin that comes with the acceleration pack is great. Or you could try hovercontrol. I play with the Saitek X52. its great.

I have DCS Black Shark (the one with all the switches) that I like since that heli is so advanced and realistic.

I ordered it yesterday, after luckily being reminded of it by this thread.  ;D
I was eagerly awaiting it long ago, back when I played Lock on MAC and FC a lot..

But they didn't exactly live up to their promises.. I lost hope.. and track of it..

But if it's got the same feel of their previous titles, it'll be sweet. Even though I fancy the fixed wing warplanes a bit more.

Austin, did you play that Vietnam era helo sim? Can't remember it's name right now. (that was by the IL2 lot btw, this Black Shark is from the ED lot, I made a mistake in my previous post)

I thought that was kinda nice, if you like that era. But not all that it could have been.

And so as to add something on topic.. I love MSFS and have pretty much bought every one since I have a pc.  But yeah, without proper controls, it's not worth it. I use the X-46 HOTAS in combination with rudder pedal.

I would guess no.

What I am surprised about with DCS, isn't that my computer is all that great, but it runs fast!

I have all FS's since 2000.

Yes I had the same thing with the Lock On titles with the jets. I would have sworn I could not have run them on my old pc when I followed development on LoMac, yet when it came out, it ran great, even though it had to play it on medium settings, obviously.  :)

Btw, have you got TrackIR?  I would absolutely reccomend it!!

That goes for all simulators that involved looking around, really.. it's brilliant with Shipsim aswell.  :)

Nope don't have trackIR, I don't play games that often so it really has no affect on me, my HAT switch is good enough.

I have it but it is very hard to learn how everything works. and I don't really have the patience.

I play a lot more now. I have an older Saitek model Joystick. I love landing :P I just go through landing procedures in my head if its not saying them, ie, some missions tell the crew to be seated and what not.

I love when I make perfect landing, no drifting towards the sides of the runway, synchronized reverse thrust, and just generally no mistakes.

On one of the missions with the World Travel (I think I messed that plane up when downloading other free content), the mission glitched and I was always forced down if joystick was idle, happens sometimes in missions, but I managed to land, I was so close to the water at the end of the run way I couldn't believe I made it, thought id hear "splish" but I heard "kssk..kssk".

Not to rain on your FS parade, but b/c of Microsoft's dismal earnings (A stock which I hold  :-[) The ACES Studio has been cut out as part of Microsoft's 5,000 employee layoff. This means FS development is dead.

I know :'(. I and the rest of the flight simulator community hope it will find its feet, but it will be such a shame, i think i heard it had been developing for 27 years. Although even if it does reopen, there will be many developers taking advantage of the missing dominator.

This mean MSTS2 is also cut? I'll have to ask my mom. She is a contract employee so she isn't worried about the cuts, although if budgets are down groups could not be able to hire her. :s

I enjoy gliding in the game. But I find helicopters really rewarding to fly.

I have so many add ons of FS2004 that it look and works better than FSX

I will never go FSX though.  Even my friend that has been satisfied with FSX for years is going to buy FS2004 and we are going to share add ons. ;D
