I'm not sure if it might help, but i'll place them anyway. Some shots i took from a buoy depot from the Dutch CG, first thing that came up in my mind was the buoy project  :P

I saw your photos in the other thread and was going to ask you if you had any other shots. That's most useful, as we can see the lower sections that are usually under water. And there are some good shots of the cardinals as well.

Thanks, indeed!

Hoy everyone,
A very good idea this is.
I think also to make it a bit easyer, just make one kind of bouy, however give it a different paintjob, this only counts for the "port or starboard"
Do this the same with the "cardinals"
than make the special ones.
To put them on the right spot,we need a real admiral chart.
Make also the entrance of the harbour(s)lights

Hi Marc.

Actually, we're making the buoys very realistic. We're also doing the various markers, lighhouses, beacons and transit markers. Plus the radar buoys. That's why Fred and I need pictures of the real things.

We have them for all of the Solent and for some of Rotterdam now. I have a few for New York, but not many others. So, if anyone has photos, please post them.

Thanks.

Terry

I don't know if you have seen the Trinity House web site, but they have drawings of their light vessels here:

http://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/aids_to_navigation/vessel_drawings.html#

All the lighthouses are detailed too and lots of other good stuff.

Hi Mike.

Yes, Trinity House is actually one of my clients in my real life outside of this Forum, and I know that web site well. Loads of interesting and useful info there, isn't there?

Thanks!

Hi Terry,
The Mersey Bar light float is shown here. This one is also a Racon beacon and from the picture looks as if solar power is utilised for it. When I last sailed past it it was still the manned vessel "Planet". (Second picture)

Thanks Angus.

All I have to do now is to persude Vstep to add Liverpool to the environments, and we'll have somewhere to put it!

But, seriously, it is very similar to the old lightship in Southampton Water, I think (now more of a platform with a light). And also the old Owers Lightship off Selsey Bill. That's just off the edge of the Solent environment, which is a shame. But who knows, it may get extended.

Hi Terry,
I thought perhaps in thess days of standardisation that it might be a common design.

Hi Marc.

Oh, yes!

I have several large books full of pictures of lighthouses and major beacons, but there are so many of them to collect.

Any that you have for any of the environments in SS 2008/Pro will be most welcome indeed.

Thanks.

Well, most of what i have is from the Brittany coast(France),however i'll do my best to find some more around the English coast.
Maybe people(members) in the near of Marseille can find them overthere.
If anyone feels like it,you all can help us with this matter.
Regards
Marc
i'll keep on searching ;D :D

Hello Terry,
Now, you are more interested in pictures, to be able making a choice between comparable lights/buoys in the 3D models prepared by Fred and you? The list and the precision of the "Admiralty Digital List of Lights" is probably sufficient if one looks at the same time at the chart?

Luc

Hi Luc.

Photos of the real things are worth their weight in seaweed to me! Or gold.

If anyone has photos not already posted, of has better ones, please, please! I'd be very grateful if the image is accompanied by the name and/or location of the buoy, so that I can match the picture with the charts.

Thanks!

Hi Matt.

For this project, what I really need are pictures of buoys, beacons, markers, lighthouses from the environments in the Simulator.

I have most of the buoys etc in the Solent region, since if I need one, I just take my boat out from Chichester and go round and photograph it.

I have a number for Rotterdam, but could do with more. I intend to hire a watertaxi for a day or three in the coming months and go round, taking photographs.

But, I don't have many for the other environments. Any photos will be most useful.

P.S. Thanks for the offer of explanation of colours, but we're OK there, I think.

Oh yes!

Pictures of buoys (with something telling me where each one is located) will be very helpful.

My wife comes from just the other side of the water, in Edison, New Jersey, and we go back quite often, but anything you can send will be welcomed.

Thanks.

I've got very detailed maps of all the Ship SImulator environments (large scale Admiralty maps etc), so the name and a rough description of the location will probably be enough for me to find them

Any buoys in Marseille, Hamburg, New York, San Francisco are welcome, because I have almost no photos of them.

Any buoys in Padstow except
GREENAWAY
BAR
(would love a shot of the beacon/lighthouse at the entrance).

Any buoys in Rotterdam except:
SPLISTSINGDAM NEAR EUROPORT (green buoy)
AL WIT-GROEN
AL WIT-ROOD
BOTLEK (mid-channel)
NW1 - NW10

I would love to see images of the other navigation markers as well, in all the environments except the Solent. Piles, rods, poles, perches, beacons, transit markers, lighthouses, etc.

Roger that Terry. I'll see what i can do. Rotterdam, including Maas Approach, will be no problem. I have my fingers crossed for a visit to Marseille  ;)
