Hi,

That's great then,

I have some more for Rotterdam

Please Ignore the Blue dots, they are representing pictures. The following co-ordinates are for the buoy closest to the red ship.

51° 58 05.55" N
4° 06' 26.00" E

Near the Bulk Terminal which is In-Game (The Large Most Western Spawnpoint in Rotterdam). Picture as Follows.

As you can see from the Google Earth picture, there are two more buoys. The one in the middle of the group is situated at

51° 58' 08.13" N
4° 06' 23.05" E

And the Most Western buoy is

51° 58' 08.40" N
4° 06' 17.41" E

I hope this is some help to you. (Berge Stahl Picture belongs to me)

Terry/Fred, are you also interested in mooring buoys like on the picture below? There are plenty of those in Rotterdam. I think they bring value to the game, to complete the whole picture and can be a hughe pain in the butt during manoeuvring.

They are indeed useful. I can/should be able to match them against the charts I have of the harbour.

Thanks!

Sorry if this is a stupid question but why do they have mooring buoys? Can't you just drop anchor?

Because you can hit with your anchor an underwater cable, for example, or it's not anchoring place. Those buoys has their "safe" anchors.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Firestar, this is not a topic for chatter. Fred had a specific request and I expect you to only post if you have something on topic.

I'll erase any further off-topic chatter in this thread. Small Talk is the place to ask such questions.

Thanks.

It is in the Lower St Marys river, at the end of the down bound rock cut canal channel

It's ok, i understand you have a busy schedule  :)

The position of the buoys on the picture is in Rotterdam, in the '2nd petrolium haven'.

Coordinates of the first buoy (where the vessel on the picture her bowlines are attatched) 51° 53' 14" N 004° 22' 31" E, there is also a 2nd buoy where the coaster attached her sternline to. That buoy is at position 51° 53' 13" N 004° 22' 39" E

If you look closely at GE, you see a lot of these buoys in the Botlek.

It wasn't even that. I completely missed your post! Going blind as well as daft...

OK, many thanks. I've got a very detailed map of Rotterdam, whih includes each of the bbuoys, so once I have some information about locations, it is then usually easy to find the right one. That will help once we start putting them into the simulator.

I plan to go to Rotterdam later in the year (when the weather is nice) and hire a watertaxi for the day, and get close up photos of the various bouys, beacons, lighthouses and markers.

Let me know if you want additional information like position and light character. I can easily find it on our ECDIS and various bookworks on the bridge.  :) Nice jobs for the boring anchor watches  ;D

Terry,

Are you interested in pictures of mooring posts and RO-RO terminals? I have plenty of pictures from the Beneluxhaven in the west of Rotterdam and I can easily get co-ordinates.

Sorry about the short post last time - internet at hotel was about to run out. Thanks for the holiday wishes, it's great over here and tomorrow it's an early start to the day, sailing up the North Coast of Dominican on a catamaran. Anyway, as i said above, i'll post the pictures when i'm back. Currently in the position of the RO-RO Freight terminal in-game (in the Beneluxhaven) the freighter is berthed where the vessel on the right is in this picture i took April 2008:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/2662961811_5eb1868350.jpg?v=0

Luckily I uploaded that picture months ago and it's still viewable at that address. The picture is taken from the back of the POR at the P&O terminal. I'll give more images and co-ordinates next Thurs.

I know this has nothing to do with the current project but this is an idea for another, and also because terry and mad fred are here, so I and several other people think it would be a good Idea to have animatronics in the next game. What I mean is Stuff like opening lock-doors, Sternramps, bowdoors and the classic Bow Viser and you should be able to activate them(open or close them) when you want to (preferably under five knots)
