You should keep your arse out of this thread if you don't like "floating boxes of steel" aka cruise ships. Please...

Because I don't want to continue any flamewars I'll post a photo of a cruise ship too :)

No that is one of the (I don't recall the exact term) enclosed lifeboats. Also while this next pic is not exactly a "cruise" ship, she was on a world cruise at the time and put in a port call here in NYC. Enjoy.

Thanks. This is a very old photo (as is the one of the 1959 SS Rotterdam) which I took myself many years ago. I scanned it into the computer and cleaned it up some. SS Canberra (1961) was ,like Rotterdam, a trend setter in doing away with the midship funnel in favor of the twin rear mounted "uptakes". Canberra was also one (if not) of the first large ocean going liners to place the lifeboats low on the superstructure, thus setting the pattern which we now see in almost all the new cruise vessels. And now another old photo, this time of QE2 before she was converted to diesel as evidenced by the original tall, thin, statuesque funnel.

One of my favorite is Oasis of the Seas, being built by Royal Caribbean International. Favorite ships currently in service include QM2 and Europa (Europa has been officialy the most luxurious cruise ship afloat since 2001)

I love the designs of that 'dragon ship' very innovative, and I look at that ship and dont think its a vessel, it looks more like part of a chinese town. Infact I once went to phantasialand in germany and for som reason the top deck reminds me of the china town they have there. I dont know why,  but there you go.

Yes I like them ones too, especially QM2. and the stuff they will have on Oasis of the seas is pure genius!

Nice ship, season, I gotta get used to calling you that.  I like the Celebrity Solstice:

Been looking at the Solstice for the past month or so. Gorgeous ship. She has been doing quite a bit of sitting here. Kudos to the engineers at Meyer Werft for finishing her WAY ahead of schedule. Her first scheduled cruise from Port Everglades was supposed to be November 23, 2008, but she is doing some short inaugural cruises in the interim. Ship has real grass on the top deck and a Corning Glass Museum glass blowing exhibition. I also got my first look at the Independence of the Seas yesterday. Much better looking than the standard Voyager class.

We are looking forward to welcoming the Oasis of the Seas in 2009. Port Everglades will have both Genesis class ships, they will contribute 2.1 million annual passengers...by themselves.

Here is a local link about the Independence being here yesterday with a brief glimpse of the Solstice.

The dragon ship is incredibly cool. What I wouldn't give to get that in ship sim.
