Ships being too small
« on: September 25, 2008, 19:41:42 »

Hi everyone! I just purchased the New Horizons add-on, and I noticed that some ships, like Ocean Star and Agile Solution are way smaller on the map and GPS than they are in real. This is really weird, because the large cruiseship has about the size of the Agile... :P Can anyone help?

This isn't a Technical Support issue.

I've moved it to General Discussions, where you can chat with others about it.  ;)

Are you sure? Have you ever heard of zooming on the map?

Ofcourse I tried zooming ;), but when I was right behind the ocean star in the game, on the GPS the silhouette (sorry if spelled wrong) was way further forward... Does anyone else have this problem?

P.S. Thanks Terry! Let's say you're never too old to learn :D!

After you install NH you should install the 1.4.2 update. See Terry’s flowchart.

Ships are not shown in their exact relative sizes on the chart. This is normal.

Can you send us a picture of your map and GPS? You can make the picture with the key: "DRUCK/S-ABF". Than it is easier to understand you. ;)

I get this as well. When in the ocean star and sailing past something like the agile solution, on the chart the agile solution is about the same size.

The problem you describe is just one of those little anomalies that happen now and again, don't worry about it, it is a little confusing until one realises what is what.

Nathan probably got a copy of our submarine beta.
The silhouettes used on the chart are not all at the same scale. POR is larger than OS. I don’t know if this is considered important enough to fix. I’ve not noticed it on the bug tracker. As long as you don’t rely on the chart instead of looking outside, it should not be a problem.

Angus and Marty: the sonar is to the left of the new altimeter on the new hud in the latest beta for PoR.

You're right Terry.

P&O asked for a Variometer too, because sometimes when docking the vertical speed was higher than -500ft/min, which was much incomfortable for the passengers ;)

It's not a very big problem, at least as, as mvsmith said, you look outside the ship and don't rely on the GPS ;)! I just wondered what it was.
And Nathan, have you got you're pictures? Looking forward to them... :D
Thanks for your replies, gentlemen!

Sonar/Radar....you know what i mean....the green screen where radio singals are sent out and bounce off objects, trnasmitting an image onto the screen - here's an image i took Thursday night on the bridge:

The bridge crew relied heavily on these screens as it was pitch black outside.

I'm posting thee rest of the pics in a topic now  ;)

I know that people often think that radar screens provide a map-like image, but they don't, as the above shows you (that's quite a good one actually).

If you think the above display is difficult to work out, you should see them when it rains!

After studying that image for about 30 minutes :-\ I can now see the different things in there. but I think that because people should be able to use it (especially when it rains ;)) for work without studying it for a long, long time, they probably would be in need of some kind of school in just "learning how to read radar images" ;D , or they just should be very practiced, ofcourse...
Anyway, lads and landlubbers on this forum: have respect for the people that can read those images :D!

Why thank you  ;D For some reason the picture quality is quite poor when the pictures are loaded on this computer, so any images i post will be replaced when i get home by a better quality one.

Yes, that was when she was docked. They have that same screen all over the bridge, and this one is on the center console:

I'm sure most people here would find it easier using this one for navigating.

That’s the reason for the “also…radar observer” endorsement on the ticket.

Hi Angus,
After watching the 2nd mate make a RADAR approach to Los Angeles, we added a post-it endorsement to his ticket: also…pilot; Hyperion sewer discharge channel.

Marty
