Were you seriously considering leaving the Lakes for the Netherlands? Did you disclose to Jumbo that you were A SS 2008 user and that you intended to use their free Javelin in that simulator? I don’t think it was Jumbo’s intention to open the possibility that they would see videos of Javelin sinking on the Internet.

Those questions were not asked...  And I have never posted anything negative here or on YouTube??  Where does that come from.  As for employment... Well, I keep my doors open, and the "highest bidder" wins...even my wife knows that.  At 42 yrs of age..I believe that my judgement is good, and my wife expects all..  As for leaving for the Netherlands...most sailors today sail under a "flag of convience".  I lived in VA, NC, MI, and Italy, and never "homeported" out of anyone of those locations...

Ship Simulator is a fun thing for me..I have sailed most of the places "For Real" in this game...  It is a great way to spend an evening at home..  I don't understand why all the negative comments...  I have never had this here?

Best Regards,

Galen

If anyone is complaining about the jumbo Javelin.

Here is a picture of the containership from ss2006 and the Jumbo Javelin.

You can see how much Vstep has improved!

Hi.

I don't see any problems with posting pictures or comments.

But, in the event that anyone gives hints, tips, advice on adding it to Ship Simulator, the post will be deleted and the poster will almost certainly be banned.

Terry

Thank you for that, perhaps Mad_Fred will put my post back again now!!

I think that they might wait until beta testing is complete.

Just wait patiently, they will announce it when it's finished. If they set a release date but have to delay it for a reason, people start to screaming again that Vstep isnt doing what they promised and the world is going to end blablabla.

It's in our own benefit that they put all the extra time in it  ;D

Since everyone else is ignoring my posts of complaint, and people are already using the Jumbo Simulator as a kind of "demo", i may as well try it out.......

It seems a great pity to me that so many folks have no patience. When Jumbo Javelin is issued on the Shipyard she will be worth a bit of patience. Why upset a serious shipping company with silly requests when very soon there will be no need to do this? As has been said, I should think that Jumbo Shipping will be getting very incensed about this sort of thing which could, in the extreme, end up with a refusal to let Vstep issue Jumbo Javelin at all. Please have some sense and let this lie, I've said it before and I will repeat it again here. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE which is sadly lacking in many people.

ALL and agree with you Traddles,
This is mainly to Jumbo Shipping please don't let stupid people who download
the link as a demo put you off,as they know it's for vacancies for your company and your workforce think read somewhere.

We all want better ships for shipsim we don't want to put anybody off,as this is the BEST shipsim you can get anywhere!,we all thank the Jumbo Company for there time and money spent.

For V Step,
Just thought of this as to the post about sinking the Jumbo ship on youtube
,never liked the sinking bit myself but that's another story.Anyway my point is this if jumbo wants they ship in the ship yard they could make it so you could not sink it,think that would solve the problem as you could understand why a shipping company would not like it very much. Also there might be other shipping companies who would like to give they workforce something like this as a xmas present or something like this.

Will say again thank you Jumbo Shipping for paying for the work involved in making this ship for shipsim.

                             Cheers Timbo  :) :) :) :)   This is my nickname!,Tim :-)

Hi Timbo,
Good post. Jumbo did, indeed, ask that Javelin not be subject to damage, and VSTEP complied with that request. It is not possible to damage Javelin in the simulator.

However, it is possible—easy, in fact—to sink a ship without inflicting damage. That, I’m sure, will be corrected before Javelin is made available on the Shipyard. But it is the reason for concern that the “free” Javelin might be used in SS 2008 without the protection against sinking.

As has just been demonstrated, there are a few irresponsible people who delight in doing such things, and lack the judgment to know what they should not do.

I'm a little bit puzzled because of the two mentioned simulators, so pls. let me ask:

Will VSTEPs overhauled "Javelin" for Ship Sim 2008 suffer visible damage and will it sink after inflicting damage?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the "sink-fetishists", but it would be quite astonishing if there would be made an exception for the "Javelin".

I'm sure that mvsmith is saying the ship has been disabled from damage in both simulators, to save any embarrasment.

Think how P&O felt when they saw this:

Or how Red Funnel felt when they saw this:

I bet they wish they'd never agreed into SS2008  ;)

Why do think it is an exception?  ;)

I've had Freedom 90 run down by Ocean Star and pushed 20 foot under water, then crushed against Latitude and finally leaping over ski ramps into cliffs at 50kts. No damage whatsoever.

Hi Penguin,
I thought I made it clear in my last post: Javelin can not suffer damage. I am sure she will be fixed so that she cannot be sunk. I doubt that Jumbo will allow her to be in SS 2008 if people can post videos of her sinking.

I do not know what the situation is in Jumbo’s “free” package because I have never seen it. I assume that Javelin cannot be damaged there. Sinking is not an issue because there is no mission editor in that package.

For any who have not studied mission creation: There are two ways a ship is caused to sink. If she suffers damage below the water line, she will sink.
A ship can be sunk in a mission via a trigger_sink invisible “waypoint”. This neither requires nor causes damage. By that I mean that she goes down without registering damage on the HUD or in mission statistic. It is possible to watch her go all the way until her mast head is under—if the depth permits.

I do not yet know how the developers will prevent sinking Javelin without removing that capability from all ships.
I would think that, having set this precedent with Jumbo Shipping, any future permission from other shipping companies would also require the same restrictions.

Marty

I would not call it an “exception”; that would imply that VSTEP had a policy requiring that a ship must be able to be damaged or sunk before it could be included. That is clearly nonsense.

As Terry pointed out, many ships are invulnerable because of their function. Atlas, for instance, can actually sail through some quays.

If you are somehow dismayed by this precedent, you can thank the irresponsible idiots who have insisted on sinking ships in public. They are apparently incapable of understanding the possible reaction to their productions by ship owners. One might think that they are dumber than a box of rocks.

No he didn't.

There was a post inbetwen to which Marty was responsing. But having seen the error of his ways, the poster removed that post.

If only all erroneous posters would have the courage to do that, eh?

Why can't people just wait!

To be honest if their actions lead to shipping companies withdrawing ships or refusing permissions to allow ships to be added to shipsimulator in the future then ban them NOW!.

As for people posting videos of ships sinking in shipsimulator on youtube which is most certainly a worry for shipping companies, surley this falls within copyright laws if not from shipsimulator or VSTEP who own the rights to the sim then the shipping companies themselves  and the use of their logo by bringing it in to dissrepute or showing it in a bad light.
Now I'm no copyright expert but I know that there aren't that many loopholes in copyrighting material of any kind be it audio or visual so maybe someone with copyright knowledge can shed some light on this.

My advice, just wait till it comes out for the sim and avoid the risk of upsetting a shipping company.

Because they naïvely thought that the users would act responsibly, despite overwhelming evidence on the forum that a large percentage of the vocal minority are too immature to do so.

Sinking is something that happens in the real world—much more often than most people realize—and, in the interest of realism, and for the purpose of certain missions, that capability is included in the simulator. Why should the majority of responsible users be penalized for the actions of a few idiots?

My own feeling is that VSTEP should act more aggressively in banning those who abuse that facility, and take legal action, where possible, against those who publish their efforts on the Internet.

Failing that, the responsible members of the forum should impose social sanctions against those who jeopardize their enjoyment of the simulator.

That is not the case. If you are talking about what happens in Multi-play, some rammings are unavoidable accidents due to “lag”. Deliberate attempts to ram, of course, should be punished.
Otherwise, I don’t understand what you mean by “accidentally sink”. You can certainly sink in a mission if you accidentally hit something and sustain damage below the waterline, but that does not happen in public view.
