The agile's cranes are white and have the boom swept down the side. I have it!

Post by: jumbo_nth on September 06, 2008, 13:02:41
allright, last picture of the Agile definately rules that one out.

Mastcranes on this one are a kind of yellowish (sandcolour) and it got the jibs stowed in a vertical position.
Unfortunately you can't see the hull colour yet, but that might improve later on.

I have to go with Evis on this one. It looks very similar to the shiff. But I am quite baffeled by the bridge in the first picture. It looks as though it is facing the shiff as the agile solution's bridge does.
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: Nathan|C on September 06, 2008, 15:44:14
This looks interesting. It definetly isn't the Agile or the Elbe (  ::) ) but looks to be based on the Agile in a way.

Maybe something new for the shipyard.....
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: Person264 on September 06, 2008, 15:47:57
My guess is there is more than one ship in that picture
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: Traddles on September 06, 2008, 15:56:14
If you care to look carefully at the first picture and compare with that which Eviss shows I think it looks quite obvious. There is a mast in front of the bridge just as Eviss's picture shows. But I can't see why the need to get upset about things, cool down folks. >:(
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: llamalord on September 06, 2008, 15:57:13
That's what I've been thinking all along but I can't figure out which ships.

I think the super structure is from the "Small Container ship" and not the Solution because the solution has it's exhaust on the side of the structure which would be in plain view in this picture.

Yes maybe it's a surprice for us

That's the way everything VSTEP makes for the Shipyard should be, secret.

If they announce it in the early stages, it may take so long to be released that we all have lost interest in it when it finally appears.

mvsmith;
might be old news, but not that many people saw the screenshots yet.
hope they are appreciated.

will post a fullpicture tomorrow, including the vacuumtower as loaded on board the vessel.

If there's anything people like to know about the Jumbo Javelin (the ship) just ask and I see if I can answer it. Or maybe open a seperate topic for it in an appropriate group, like development?

Hi Jumbo_nth.
I’m glad that you have broken the news. I didn’t want to go too far without an announcement from VSTEP. That will certainly be an interesting vessel to play with.

The bridge really looks good. Where did you obtain the in-game pictures?
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: jumbo_nth on September 06, 2008, 22:21:39
the captain;
The Jumbo Javelin is probably the most detailed ship created sofar and therefore requiring a high spec computer to get the best out of it. This is only the front part of the vridge, in fact is a rather big area where you cna walk around and even look at the cargo stowed on deck.
Also walking on deck is supported, but there is no engineroom available.

Pictures were taken when I was playing the two dedicated jumbo missions available.
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: The Captain on September 06, 2008, 22:42:02
Ohh. And the jumbo is going to be in the shipyard?
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: jumbo_nth on September 06, 2008, 22:52:41
I really don't know yet, surely hope so  :P. Because I would love to sail the other ports as well, for now it's only Rotterdam (her maiden port) and the ocean.
But as Rotterdam is a very big area indeed there is plenty to explore.
Title: Re: Soonish
Post by: The Captain on September 06, 2008, 23:04:24
That is true, but I was really hoping that they would only have it in SS 09 :(. Ahh, all the shiffs they are going to make are going to be made are going into the shiffyard, and then are going to be included in SS09. That is my opinion of things at the moment.

I don't really think there is no need for stern thrusters on a vessel with 2 props.

The Sherpa has 2 because it makes it useful for her job.

Ok, here is another picture showing all of the vessel without cargo this time.
Regarding thrusters the following;
our J-types (4) are standard fitted with a single bowthruster and two main engines, however two of them are adapted to be used as offshore vessels and are DP2-capable. This meant an additional bowthruster and a sternthruster (azimuth) is installed.
The Jumbo Javelin is offshore-capable and in game we have two engines, a bowthrust and the azimuth thruster at the stern. However during normal sailing (including mooring) it is never used in real live.

OK, I will be posting pics regulary no need to ask.

Regarding the bridge it's modelled as the original bridge from the vessel including decorations, computer screens and such based on photographs and videos. Therefore it is very close to the real thing.
You can also visit the website for some information on our ships and even more pictures altough that is mostly about loading/discharging cargo.

I'm working for Jumbo Shipping and was involved in development of our game as well.

The cargo that must be loaded in the Rotterdam harbour mission is a vacuumtower,
part of it can be seen on the first picture in this thread.  It's an item we have transported before on our ships and was available in autocad/3dmax at the time. I'll see if I can get a picture when walking on deck (with the cargo), that's something different.
The object of the mission is to berth alongside a barge which has the cargo on it. When that's done the cargo will be magically transfer to the ships deck. So no, you can't control the cranes.

Hi Eggy, this has already been asked and answered in the same topic ! For now, you can't get it. It might be available one day in the shipyard, but this hasn't been planned for now.

From what I know, this ship will be released as a stand-alone version of Ship Sim, it's a special command from Jumbo Shipping.

Coffeemaker; it was left out as the bridge (in fact the whole ship) was already very very detailed. It is located next to the sink.

Dutch gin; in the old days when the ships were made of wood and man of steel it was the next best thing, nowadays with all these regulations and the steel ships ...  ;D

Speed of ship. And woud you be able to transfer to another ship or in MP?
Title: Re: Jumbo Javelin (was: soonish...)

Speed of the vessel is upto 18knots but with the current fuel prices you really don't want to do that last knot.

The Mission for the Javelin only allows for loading the cargo onto the ship.
I don't think multiplayer is supported as the ship isn't available in the regular ShipSim2008 version.

It's not avalaible for our SS08 yet.

VSTEP made a custom SS08 version for Jumbo Shipping, with one of their ships in it.

The vessel might be released to us aswell, but as I understand it, at present, no concrete information is available on what, when, how, etc... So we'll have to wait and see.

If VSTEP decides what to do and when, we'll all surely hear about it in an announcement right here on the forum.

I hope that answers the "when are we getting this?" side of things.  :)

Fred

But imagine for example, you're playin on this ship, approaching the harbour, docking, loading/unloading heavy cargo with cranes (like loading containers with help of the crane in one of the missions), then you're ready to leave the harbour....  I think it's more realistic & interesting than just sailing & docking.  Who knows, if, for example, during the loading operation your ship will be overloaded, it'll capsize right near the dock - just like in real life....

FOYEN,
The question of working cranes on vessels has been beaten to death before. Parroting the same suggestions made by others will not make it more likely that they will be implemented. Firestar put it bluntly, but he has a good point.
There are much more important features for VSTEP to concentrate on at this point.

You can't drive the little baggage tractors in FSX, you can only fly PLANES in a FLIGHT simulator. So here you drive SHIPS in a SHIP simulator.

Gonna be more then 1000T. The average 20ft container is 20 tons. Although most are 40ft now that are loaded up to 30 tons. But even then they seem to LOVE to overload those things.

The duck is an easter egg. Those are always fun. I like the Fire one (Hence my username) Where on like every tug you can just type Flames and they will appear (Every tug Including RPA, Excluding Bugsier 2 and Igor K.)

The Jumbo Javelin is a Heavy lift ship like the agile solution.

I don't think that they will use their cranes for loading containers, beceaus each crane can lift 800T.

I am talking about loading one big (+1000T) load.

I don't mean to sound nosy, but, what are Jumbo Shipping going to use their own personal SS for? would it be for advertisement purposes? Either way, I assume it works on the same principal as our SS08? meaning it shouldn't be too hard to convert it IF they said "Sure, go ahead".

Just guessing there.

Perhaps as a free give away demo for future seaman at maritime schools. There is a big shortage on crew, so this would be a orginal way to attrackt them. Atleast it's would be better than the last advertising from Jumbo, a picture from the Die Hard movie with Bruce Willis with the text on it "He got the X factor but not the Jumbo factor" or something like that written on it.  :P

I don’t suppose it could be for demonstrating the capabilities of their vessel to prospective clients. Most likely it is a Christmas present for the CEO’s kids.
In any case, they paid for it, and it is theirs to do with as they wish. It is really not our business.

Probably. He IS a Mod. And i know a few things that i dont know if im allowed to say about them and their relationship with VSTEP so ill stop there.

Now, I'm not saying I do have Javelin. But if I did, it wouldn't be because I'm a moderator. Those two events would not be linked, even though they may both exist.

Or not.

Possibly.

And if I did have it, I might say that it is indeed a worthy vessel.

Assuming I had it.

Which I might not.

It would seem that they are using it for recruiting. If you can convince them that you are seriously considering a career with them, and that you are someone they might consider employing, you get to play with the Javelin. I don’t know how many cabin boys they need.

Hmmm....Well, I think that Bottman wouldn't have the Jumbo Javelin if it wasn't going into SS08. Maybe they let him have it as a thankyou, but since he's said "It will be available for the masses" I'm starting to wonder if Beta Testing is happening.

Only time will tell.....

Jack.
p.s. been doing some detective work! :o :D translated what Bottman said in the German forum!

It hasn't turned out 100% correct, since its Google Translator, but i thought i'd try it and got these results.

"Man, this is a whole bouquet of questions!

So, you can just bridge deck and the main perpetrators. And of course the back and Schanz. Drive? Correctly suspected! In the original, the boat an retractable pod and two bow thrusters.
When? Hopefully soon! As written, there are still some fine-tuning required.
The loading and unloading is done, unfortunately, as by magic, or in other words, the vacuum tower will be sent to and from the deck gebeamt. The cranes are not taxable. Other specialized cargo is not yet available.

I like the ship is therefore very good, because it was modeled very realistically. I think the "Jumbo Javelin" still ticking even better than the "Elbe", so even the reflections on the bridge windows have been also many details on the bridge. And this drive is relatively large ship is also very good. Only the Podantrieb is only taxable on the mouse - and this is not always possible. But also because exercise makes the Masters, especially since the main drive already has sufficient power.

Wait worth it!

Gruß"

Obviously some of it dosen't make sence, but either way, thats basically what is happening!

And more translations of text further down:

"Well, there's no doubt that the "Jumbo Javelin" on the next ship at The Shipyard will belong! We create even the first missions to do so.

Gruß"

Again, some of it hasn't been translated perfect.

I'm starting to get excited! :D ;D

Jack.

Hey, what a strange discussion! I'm a  Beta-Tester - yes. And I've got the "Jumbo" for creating some missions for it's launch in The Shipyard  - and other mission creators too. And we've got the permission from VSTEP's technical director (chief developer) to inform the forum about the vessel. All in all it's the same procedure as it has been with every other Beta-Version. No secrets... ::)

Best regards

That link is the training version made by VSTEP especially for Jumboship. It probably only contains the Javelin and 2 enviroments. As Bottman said in his German post and the one above, we'll get it in the shipyard  ;D (Probably for a small price though, which i never mind)

But seriously, Javelin is an excellent vessel. Just wandering around it will take a lot of time, never mind the missions, which I know will be entertaining and challenging. Lots of interesting places to go and interesting things to see.

I think it will be well worth the small amount of money that will be asked for it.

Indeed the link given earlier is showing our companies (Jumbo) version with two missions in the Rotterdam/Northsea area. It is given free to people who are interested in sailing with our company  (and off course are qualified to do so) and some commercial relations as well as all personel.

I do hope it will show up in the Shipyard soon as it is a very detailed model and a lovely ship to sail.

The azimuth control is indeed part of the DP2 system the ship is equipped with altough this is only used for offshore installation jobs and NOT during normal sailing and cargo operations. Therfore to get the best sailing experience don't use it !
Any questions about the ship or company feel free to ask or check    www.jumboship.nl (http://www.jumboship.nl)

Hi Jumbo_nth,

there I have found the attached drawing. There can be seen, that the single retractable azimuth thruster is located much more forward and it looks, as if the vessel has just a single screw arrangement. What's wrong now?

Regards
Title: Re: Jumbo Javelin (was: soonish...)
Post by: jumbo_nth on September 28, 2008, 18:03:35
Bottman;
The ship is build with a double bowthurst, dual engine (at the stern) and a azimuth (retractable) at the 'nearly' aft. The picture you show should not be on our website and I'll check on that tomorrow.

FYI originally the ship was built conventional with a single bowthrust and dual engine. Later a DP2 modification was carried out and another bowthrust and a rectractable azinuth (aft) were installed. The picture you show was probably one of the 'probable' solutions which didn't make it.
We will soon have four ships in this J-type class, two with the conventional single bowthurst/dual engine concept and two featuring DP2. The 3rd vessel will enter service in november this year (now being outfitted with the cranes) and the 4th by mid next year.

It's a large pontoon for oversea duties with the vacuum-tower on top. Until now (beta status) it's not towable. And of course, you can load the tower onto the "Jumbo Javelin", but this is just beaming, not loading.. ::)

Javelin can be towed like any other player ship. The pontoon can also be towed, but the current dynamics make it difficult. Bug2 can get it above 1 knot; Sherpa about twice that.

I have went to the site, and tired to download, but the link page is faulty.  Is there anyway to get this vessel?  Maybe a zip file or something.  I would love to sail her, since I have seen these types of ships while out to see.  Please feel free to contact me here or off line via pm.  Thanks

Galen

I think Jumboship have seen this topic and removed the download link. They don't want you to have it for free when they can make money out of it in the shipyard  ;)

I would gladly pay for it!  I enjoy new vessels and missions!! ;D   If they are not going to release it, I would like to know.  I see some folks have it, and if it is "freeware", I would like to possibly get a zip file, and try it out ;)

Thanks for the response.....maybe somwone can clue us in!

The way to get her, along with missions for her, is to wait until she is offered in the shipyard. That package is still in beta test.
Most likely the reason that link is dead is that the dynamics for JJ are still being finalized and what you would have got would not have been satisfactory. She might have scared off any legitimate officers applying to sail her.

Another possibility is that you have confused Jumbo with Dumbo; they can see that your “applications” are obviously bogus.

I dont think it's a big deal, the true SS fans will buy it anyway because in SS you have more extra missions, free roaming, multi player enz enz. I also read on the German forum that they are still tweaking it, so the SS version might be better  :)

You are correct, Ballast: The CMMs are testing the mission now, and Luc and others are adjusting the dynamics. The VSTEP version will have many more missions, and the ship should perform quite differently. It will also be supported on this forum.

Hello to All the Moderators..

Let me get this right so I do not violate any rules.

1.  If we recieved the "Jumbo Javelin" from Jumbo Ships, can we post pictures?

2.  What content can we post about it?  ie; pictures, remarks, etc..

I must say.. if  I did get it...I would say "WOW..great work guys!"  And I promise you..I will be paying for the "Jumbo" when it comes out in the "Shipyard"!

I just hope you will create a geared bulker of the 500-600 foot range with that kind of detail.  Just a regular everyday ship!

Thanks to All!!

You are not supposed to get it in the first place unless you are honestly interested in applying for a job with Jumbo Shipping. Doing so might compromise the relationship between VSTEP and Jumbo Shipping and make any further arrangements to model their ships impossible. This could affect the willingness of other shipping companies to cooperate with VSTEP.

Those questions were not asked...  And I have never posted anything negative here or on YouTube??  Where does that come from.  As for employment... Well, I keep my doors open, and the "highest bidder" wins...even my wife knows that.  At 42 yrs of age..I believe that my judgement is good, and my wife expects all..  As for leaving for the Netherlands...most sailors today sail under a "flag of convience".  I lived in VA, NC, MI, and Italy, and never "homeported" out of anyone of those locations...

Ship Simulator is a fun thing for me..I have sailed most of the places "For Real" in this game...  It is a great way to spend an evening at home..  I don't understand why all the negative comments...  I have never had this here?

It seems a great pity to me that so many folks have no patience. When Jumbo Javelin is issued on the Shipyard she will be worth a bit of patience. Why upset a serious shipping company with silly requests when very soon there will be no need to do this? As has been said, I should think that Jumbo Shipping will be getting very incensed about this sort of thing which could, in the extreme, end up with a refusal to let Vstep issue Jumbo Javelin at all. Please have some sense and let this lie, I've said it before and I will repeat it again here. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE which is sadly lacking in many people.

ALL and agree with you Traddles,
This is mainly to Jumbo Shipping please don't let stupid people who download
the link as a demo put you off,as they know it's for vacancies for your company and your workforce think read somewhere.

We all want better ships for shipsim we don't want to put anybody off,as this is the BEST shipsim you can get anywhere!,we all thank the Jumbo Company for there time and money spent.

For V Step,
Just thought of this as to the post about sinking the Jumbo ship on youtube
,never liked the sinking bit myself but that's another story.Anyway my point is this if jumbo wants they ship in the ship yard they could make it so you could not sink it,think that would solve the problem as you could understand why a shipping company would not like it very much. Also there might be other shipping companies who would like to give they workforce something like this as a xmas present or something like this.

Will say again thank you Jumbo Shipping for paying for the work involved in making this ship for shipsim.

                             Cheers Timbo  :) :) :) :)   This is my nickname!,Tim :-)

Hi Timbo,
Good post. Jumbo did, indeed, ask that Javelin not be subject to damage, and VSTEP complied with that request. It is not possible to damage Javelin in the simulator.

However, it is possible—easy, in fact—to sink a ship without inflicting damage. That, I’m sure, will be corrected before Javelin is made available on the Shipyard. But it is the reason for concern that the “free” Javelin might be used in SS 2008 without the protection against sinking.

As has just been demonstrated, there are a few irresponsible people who delight in doing such things, and lack the judgment to know what they should not do.

Marty

I'm a little bit puzzled because of the two mentioned simulators, so pls. let me ask:

Will VSTEPs overhauled "Javelin" for Ship Sim 2008 suffer visible damage and will it sink after inflicting damage?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the "sink-fetishists", but it would be quite astonishing if there would be made an exception for the "Javelin".

I'm sure that mvsmith is saying the ship has been disabled from damage in both simulators, to save any embarrasment.

Think how P&O felt when they saw this:

Why do think it is an exception?  ;)

I've had Freedom 90 run down by Ocean Star and pushed 20 foot under water, then crushed against Latitude and finally leaping over ski ramps into cliffs at 50kts. No damage whatsoever.

Hi Penguin,
I thought I made it clear in my last post: Javelin can not suffer damage. I am sure she will be fixed so that she cannot be sunk. I doubt that Jumbo will allow her to be in SS 2008 if people can post videos of her sinking.

I do not know what the situation is in Jumbo’s “free” package because I have never seen it. I assume that Javelin cannot be damaged there. Sinking is not an issue because there is no mission editor in that package.

For any who have not studied mission creation: There are two ways a ship is caused to sink. If she suffers damage below the water line, she will sink.
A ship can be sunk in a mission via a trigger_sink invisible “waypoint”. This neither requires nor causes damage. By that I mean that she goes down without registering damage on the HUD or in mission statistic. It is possible to watch her go all the way until her mast head is under—if the depth permits.

I do not yet know how the developers will prevent sinking Javelin without removing that capability from all ships.
I would think that, having set this precedent with Jumbo Shipping, any future permission from other shipping companies would also require the same restrictions.

Regards,
Marty

I would not call it an “exception”; that would imply that VSTEP had a policy requiring that a ship must be able to be damaged or sunk before it could be included. That is clearly nonsense.

As Terry pointed out, many ships are invulnerable because of their function. Atlas, for instance, can actually sail through some quays.

If you are somehow dismayed by this precedent, you can thank the irresponsible idiots who have insisted on sinking ships in public. They are apparently incapable of understanding the possible reaction to their productions by ship owners. One might think that they are dumber than a box of rocks.

No he didn't.

There was a post inbetwen to which Marty was responsing. But having seen the error of his ways, the poster removed that post.

If only all erroneous posters would have the courage to do that, eh?

Why can't people just wait!

To be honest if their actions lead to shipping companies withdrawing ships or refusing permissions to allow ships to be added to shipsimulator in the future then ban them NOW!.

As for people posting videos of ships sinking in shipsimulator on youtube which is most certainly a worry for shipping companies, surley this falls within copyright laws if not from shipsimulator or VSTEP who own the rights to the sim then the shipping companies themselves  and the use of their logo by bringing it in to dissrepute or showing it in a bad light.
Now I'm no copyright expert but I know that there aren't that many loopholes in copyrighting material of any kind be it audio or visual so maybe someone with copyright knowledge can shed some light on this.

My advice, just wait till it comes out for the sim and avoid the risk of upsetting a shipping company.

Because they naïvely thought that the users would act responsibly, despite overwhelming evidence on the forum that a large percentage of the vocal minority are too immature to do so.

Sinking is something that happens in the real world—much more often than most people realize—and, in the interest of realism, and for the purpose of certain missions, that capability is included in the simulator. Why should the majority of responsible users be penalized for the actions of a few idiots?

My own feeling is that VSTEP should act more aggressively in banning those who abuse that facility, and take legal action, where possible, against those who publish their efforts on the Internet.

Failing that, the responsible members of the forum should impose social sanctions against those who jeopardize their enjoyment of the simulator.

That is not the case. If you are talking about what happens in Multi-play, some rammings are unavoidable accidents due to “lag”. Deliberate attempts to ram, of course, should be punished.
Otherwise, I don’t understand what you mean by “accidentally sink”. You can certainly sink in a mission if you accidentally hit something and sustain damage below the waterline, but that does not happen in public view.

The purpose of the simulator is to move your ship around without getting damaged  as it is in real life, otherwise any idiot could go out and captain a supertanker, the difference here in the sim is we do have idiots that sail around with the intent of sinking themselves and others in the process, if you are one of these idiots then you are probably too stupid to realise that posting your video showing a real life shipping company's vessel either in distress or sinking or not being used for it's intended purpose on the internet via youtube or any other medium outside of shipsimulator, is wrong and could lead to shipping companies taking action against you and VSTEP therefore ruining the the chance of them ever granting permission for their ships or logo's to be used again, this will also put other shipping companies off allowing models of their ships in to the sim.

What happens in the simulator including multiplayer is not on view to anyone outside of the game, so only those who have paid for the game can witness ships sinking, the minute it goes outside of this bubble I'm pretty sure that is not what the shipping companies intended when they gave permission for their vessels to be used, most shipping companies especially those who carry passengers don't even allow their crews to be seen drinking alcohol in a public place wearing any company uniform or logo even when off duty and they definitely don't like their employees posting videos of their ships or the goings on onboard their ships when crew are on or off duty, so i guess they won't be overjoyed with seeing the pride of their fleet doing flips, sinking and ramming other ships do you?

Think Idiots think!

What is it that “does not work”? What, exactly do you mean?
If you want answers to your questions, you should learn how to ask them in such a way that others can understand them. You must also ask them in the correct place.

This question should be in Technical Support or General discussion, really.

But you need version 1.4.2 installed. Build 1038.

If you have any further questions, please start a new topic in the appropriate area.

See the Posting Guidelines for further information.
