Steam Whistle
« on: August 21, 2008, 04:11:06 »

Hi All,

Does any one out there no how to make a steam whistle like the kind used on steam ships in the 1910s.  I have a pretty large shop to work in but nothing really advanced like a lathe. I've been all over the internet looking for something even coming close to a diagram.  This is the best one I've found:

I understand the semi-complicated things like how the release valve works and the grip lever and the condinsation tube but I don't know about the simple stuff like Which edges to make sharp, how big of a hole in the steam director to make.

Thanks Guys, ;)

I am a huge steam lover and I have a steam gerenator and I'd love to have a whistle for it.  All I really what is a basic plane so I can tweek until it is the same tone as a local steam ship it so I can record some high quality sounds for the 3D Version I'm working on in the back ground.

It is the only American coal-fired Steamship still around today. This is it's 100th birthday so I thought I might honor it by creating a model.  It is very close to New York and has been there before, So I thought this ship would be a great addition.

:-X --You just insulted an official American Landmark.--

If you look more closely you will see that it's actually a nice braded rope mesh. :-\
