Solent - Depth in Portsmouth Harbour
« on: August 04, 2008, 08:49:03 »

In next upgrade please consider making Portsmouth Harbour accessible to major shipping for berthing on Starboard side quays for bigger ships.  FACT - in real life it takes Aircraft Carriers!

I have just "sailed" Pride of Rotterdam from Southampton all the way to Portsmouth Harbour - but ran aground at Harbour Entrance (opposite the "Still and West" pub for those who know the area.)  The water depth is shown very shallow (blue) inside the harbour. OK for the fast ferries etc. but not decent shipping.

Yes i agree, even the North Star can't get down all the way without hitting shallows. I think depths have been an issue with some environments for a while now.

Here is an example:

Rotterdam, the Game: Latitude with 18m Draft struggles to get in
Rotterdam, Real: Berge Stahl with 23m Draft gets in nicely

Portsmouth, The Game: Northern Star fishing boat cannot enter
Portsmouth, Real: Pride of Bilbao cruise ferry (HUGE) can enter safely
