I thought i'd let you all in for a bit of a treat, as some of you may know i am Irish and i play the Piano Accordion, and Piano, and the music i play is mainly Irish and Scottish traditional music.
I find that Irish music tends to get everyone dancing, and thats what people tell me when i play for them and thats what happens, its great fun, and some of you probably haven't heard much of our musical culture.
Our music is hundreds of years old, some of the tunes i play can be heard on black and white video's from the 1930's which i find quite amazing, Irish traditional music itself, can date back further than that! during the famous Irish famine Irish music would be played on the ships, concertina's, accordion's, fiddle's, bodhrans and the Tin whistle (or as other nationality's may call the Tin Whistle a Penny Whistle. But Tin Whistle was the original name given by the Irish.) And the Famine (An Gorta Mór) took place between 1845 and 1849, but again, Irish music dates back even further! we will never know the exact date when Irish music was first played or invented, as it is so old.
So remember, when you see somebody playing Irish or Scottish music for you, take into consideration the fact that the tunes are probably a lot older than you and that these tunes and traditions have gone through the generations in Ireland.
Finally, some samples of Traditional Irish music, by Comhaltas Ceoltóirà Éireann (CCÉ). Which is an Irish group that sets up the famous Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann festival, which is a music festival/competition. I have been to many of their competitions myself, the Fleadh Cheoil is very famous all around the world, Americans, English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh and of course many other nationality's come to the Fleadh to show there Talent, i will post some pictures of my trophy's and medals that i won from there later.

Remember, also, the Traditional "Sea Shanty" is actually Irish, and it is known in Irish Traditional Music as a Hornpipe. A sample of a Hornpipe is below, you will notice that it sounds very much like a Sea Shanty, thats because it is a Hornpipe, which is a "Sea Shanty". Now, there's something for you to think about
