Ship Sim 2008 Demo Not Working - Again!

ok, I've been reading online about all the problems people are having with questviewer.exe. even in the 2006 version it's been a problem.

so i downloaded ss2008 demo, and installed. right away the first game screen would load to 100%, then bring up the VSTEP logo. once that finishes the game crashes back to windows.
i have updated my video card, sound card. i have the latest ver of direct x (9c).
i was considering buying this game, but if i can't get the demo to work, then what is my guarantee that the full version is going to work.  please help me.

intel core 2 duo, 1.86ghz
soundblaster audigy 2,
3gb ram
evga 7950gt video
windows xp sp2

Looks like you could have a corrupt download. Try re-downloading the demo.

uninstalled. re-downloaded the demo from your webpage. reinstalled same error.

i noticed that i do not have a folder "Container Crane" in the objects folder. it seems i am missing some files. is there some way i can download that folder.

I re-installed windows XP, and ran the updates and it seems to have fixed it. i must have had some kind of codec or driver that was causing a problem. I will let u know if i find it.

well, it stopped working again.
it seems possibly logitech drivers are causing the problem.
does anyone else have installed and is able to play ss2008:
logitech quickcam messenger

after installing the updates for windows, i installed open office. and it also installs JAVA. that is what caused the problem. This afternoon, the game wouldn't load, and the last thing i installed was JAVA.
 
I uninstalled JaVA updates 6 and 7 from my add/remove panel, and the game loads.

I missed this, so I didn't comment earlier - sorry!

That's an interesting one. I've not had any Java related problems and its the first time that anyone has reported this, so far as I know. I'll try playing with this over the weekend on my test system and see if I can reproduce the fault.
