Flight Simulator 2004 or FSX ?
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:38:49 »

Sorry if this may not have to do anything with ship simulating, but i am planning to buy a flight simulator soon so i can start having fun with planes because im thinking of becoming a pilot and i cant make up wich would be better.Because for some reason i have a feeling that Flight sim 2004 is more realistic than FSX but FSX has more controls than flight sim 2004, so im confused and cant make up my mind.So i make a poll so everyone can vote ad give me their opinion on this, maybe i could make up my mind after all.

Hi Third mate..

Either one would do for that purpose.. they are both realistic and there are not many more things you can do with FSX that you cannot use in FS9 (avionics/simulation wise)

FSX is just newer, better looking.. and uses the newer hardware better. But from a simulation standpoint, they don't differ that much.

So it basically depends upon your PC, if you can run FSX ok, I'd go with that. If not, I'd take FS9.

Fred

Hi,
I have both systems but am currently using FSX, I have used flightsimulator since it started, and you do see improvements with each new version, If you are looking for the one that gives you the most addons in respect of Planes and Scenery, I would Suggest FS9, at the moment FSX is very limited to its addons in both aircraft and Scenery, but It is also a Frame rate eater unless you have a good udated computer, I am with IVAO and as I fortunately Buld my own computers, I have Kept ahead of things and get a Frame rate of 23fps in FSX. The Choice really is Yours.

Ahh, thank you for your opinion, what im looking for is full realism. So pretty much like inside the cabin to have blurry parts of the cockpit or the airplane have a blurry paint job and when hitting something part of the wing would snap off  the clouds looks realistic, plenty of smoke, rain, sun and the terrain, cars moving and the whole background thing... etc. And when the night falls you would see the controls light up and inside the pit to be all lit up nicely.I would be happy with the airplanes that i have to be honest, at the moment i would not need any more until i pass flying school, and that would take a few month or years (learned to fly the planes in the game good).

Your wing won't snap off but it will have a big CRASH screen. You can also add failures such as engine failure control failure APU failure. Everything else you ask of is in the game.

I can get you some pics tommorow of everything. :)

hi

i have also fsx and i have to say it looks realy realistic,in fsx you have more airplanes and airports and they made the airport more realistic for example cars standing near your airplane etc...
but it is very difficult too learn flying.(a yostick is realy needed cause this makes it more easier to fly)
fs 2004 is much more easier.(you realy need a very very good computer too play fsx)

Hya all :)

FSX is great, but it is a performance 'hog' when you bump-up the graphics ;)

Only problem is that when I use fraps in FSX my FPS lowers so much that it is impossible to fly.  >:( :(

I've never tried Fraps in FSX, but that does happen in some of my newer games/demo's ::)

Yeah doesn't do much in ss, but FSX is already RAM and graphics hungry and fraps is just eating it all up.

My games aren't unplayable, but there can be some slowdown.....like you say, Ship Sim doesn't alter too much when using Fraps ;D

FSX has much better graphic simulation and slightly better everything else.
BUT
FS2004 will work on just about any computer while FSX barely works on XP let alone Vista. :P
