You were right in who wrote it back in 1949. Looking again it seems that a lot of people had hits with it, I was looking for Trini Lopez who took it to #3.

This just reminded me, I had a dream last night about me seeing Bruce on TV live in concert and half way through Born in the U.S.A a really Fat pig ran up on the stage tripped him, Bruce fell of and then the paramedics arrived.
