Where should I move to pay less tax?
« on: May 27, 2008, 08:59:30 »

Norway is a very tax-heavy country even if we got a lot of oil money.
So where should I move to pay less tax for my job?

Sweden... anyone? ;D

The tax-rate may be high but the wages are correspondingly higher as well. I don't feel sorry for you.  :P

The ones you should feel sorry about are the turists. They have to pay the high VAT without benefitting from the high wages. So stay away from Norway...  ;D

Perhaps this is why DFDS has chosen to close their Newcastle-Bergen route and sell Queen of Scandinavia...  :-\

I don't think so. Fjord Line made an attempt to serve that marked before DFDS took over. I don't think that you will see a 3rd attempt. Bergen is dead.

Fjord Line already said they may start again later, there is a market for this route, it has been around for ages. But the main problem for the ferry companies these days is the very high fuel cost and the tough competition from the airlines, they have been selling tickets under cost, and that can't continue.

Well, now there is a chance... but I don't think they will pick up a route they abandoned only a couple of years ago.

As you say, the oil price is the main issue, cheap airtickets another. However, I don't think we'll see the oil price drop anytime soon, so don't think you should expect a new route to open in the near future.  :-\

Antartica has the lowest taxes.

If you want to stay in Europe, Alderney is good. It is outside of the EU, so no VAT. Income tax is very low. But it is part of the UK. They pay to the British Government enough to maintain the sea wall outside of the harbour entrance.

It is also close to France.

First of all, we only use approximately 5% of our oil money, most of our wealth comes from our taxes itself.
If you want to move to a country with no taxes, try moving to a socialist based country.

But wikipedia has the answers to most things, and to your little question as well.
