And I can't get on wikipedia to check.

I'm using one of these wireless broadbands from vodafone... as soon as I try to access a second page it dies...

Like I say, NEVER be the first to try an upgrade...

Have you had a look at micromush help site to see if there's any help there?

LOL, that would just be seriously 'sad' using Win '98 or prior now :P :D

Oh dear. Guess who has Win 98 SE still running.....

Serious Sad Terry.

Mind you, I also have XP SP3 installed from about 6 weeks ago and no problems whatsoever. And I have Vista SP1 installed, also with no problems.

I have to say that in both cases, I didn't see much effect at all.

The Vista update" had been hailed as spectacular non-event, anyway.

Not sad at all. Other than the Amiga (compare it to pc THEN, not now) Win 98 was the first decent OS to come on the market, imo.

The problem is that there are too many combinations of hardware all designed by different manufacturers who all have slightly (or greatly) different standards.

I say about the Amiga for a good reason. Back then, there was a choice of about 3 CPUs, bog standard graphic and sound (worked compared to a pc of that era) and there was seldom this sort of problem with upgrades.

I cant see the top one.

Still, I think it's more about what it does than what it looks like, personally.

But in any case, my 98 SE desktop is spectacular. I have a picture of the world that rotates in real time. See piccy.

The ONLY benefit of Windows 2000 was that I no longer needed to reboot the PC every couple of days. Otherwise, there's little difference.  With XP, there is absolutely no gain over Windows 2000. With Vista it's many steps back into the snake infested swamp.

I made 2000 look like 98. I made XP look like 98 and even my Vista looks like 98. So, I'm comfortable.

Terry, I just had a snoop around for your background, and can't find anything like it. Do you know of a link where I can get it from (it looks gorgeous)? :)

Oi, Terry! I thought I had the 100% monopoly on being akward   ::)

How do you get your backdrop to run an animation then? Is it native to windoze or some special programme? :o

Just because I'm akward (more so than you, OK  ;D ) I'm going to set up my own server so I can run my website from the office- even though it's more expensive and slower than a commercial supplier.

It took a bit of programming, but hey, I program using machine code, even for Windows. (Real men use Machine Code, not softie programs like C# or VB or .Net!).

Anyway, you're nowhere near as awkward as me. All of our servers run on PCs sat near to me (some here in office 1, others 8 miles up the road in Office 2). I also have my own Unix Server, located in London Docklands and watched over by Demon Internet for me (they re-boot it if it locks up completely - which is almost never).

I still use NT4 server as the PDC for all of our offices around the world. It has VPN and VNC channels, plus it run Apache Server and Filezilla FTP Server and Argosoft Mail Server and so on. I spend very little on server software, as you can see.

Hi Jayshun.

It exists on my system in a strange format so that Windows 98 can use it. I'll take a look and see if I can either convert it or find the original source, then I'll post it here.

Back soon...

[edit 1]
Here it is:

[edit 2]
Go to the XP backgrounds via
Control Panel => Display => Desktop tab.
Select "Space" as the background and you may see this image.

I cannot recall if this was a background I added or if it came with XP, so you may not have it. If not, use the file below.

I'm sorry, Terry... But did you realise that this is the english forum...  :o

I think a trip to peecee wurld is in order to buy a book "the idiots guide to deciphering Terrys technology"... Joking aside, yes, I've heard most of the terms but no idea how to set it up. Hopefully I will run out of enthusiasm for it before I start :D

"PERsistence is futile"

Or as a MUCH better programme once put it "Resistance is USELESS" (when being evicted from a Vogon ship, anyway)

Yeah. At the moment it looks like the supreme achievement of high intelligence.

If I change my avatar to an image of small wollen cardigan, the comment would look daft.

[universal translator=on: benefit:Earthlings&otherLowIntelligenceLifeForms]

I have some "Space" screensavers. Planesoft make some excellent ones.

My wife buys them for me on my birthday and other occassions.

Earthlings AND low intelligencelifeforms?

Why imply disparity where there is none?

I tell you it's the last time I visit this damned planet. Planet Vogon is so much nicer at this time of day

Actually it was Earthlings and other low intelligence life forms. I was including Martian scriglets and woophahs of course. Plus your fellow Vogon rimplzrghs! That goes almost without saying.
