« on: May 09, 2008, 13:27:29 »

Hiya all :)

Just in case you didn't know, Windows XP Service Pack 3 is now available ;)

You can use Windows Update to obtain it:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

There is also a full standalone installer for it, available from the Microsoft website :)

Regards.

DJM.

Edit:  WARNING!!!  Please read these articles before installing this Service Pack:

There have been discovered some problems with SP3 on HP computers and computers with AMD cpu...at least in the Norwegian SP3 I don't know if it is the same with other languages.
The problem is that the computer is just rebooting itself all the time.
Fortunately I don't have this problem since I have Vista(which I surprisingly haven't had any problems with yet)
Just thought I should mention the SP3 potential problems ;)

Hiya Lanedre :)

It's always good to get feedback on problems that could happen, so thanks for that ;D

I've actually had no problems with SP3, even when I tried the RC's a short while before the official release.  I've noticed a small increase in speed since I installed it a couple of days ago too, so maybe I'm one of the lucky ones ??? :-\

I obviously use the English SP3 though, so maybe that's why everything seems ok ;)

Regards.

Thanks for the message. Installed the Dutch version this afternoon, works fine. My laptop also seems to be a bit faster.

Apparently, XP SP3 surpasses Vista SP1 in every aspect of performance ;)

I wonder why I haven't upgraded my OS yet.................. :D

Maybe it was just me, but the first thing I tried after installing it was Ship sim. As long as that works ok, then that's fine with me. :P

I'm surprised you can even run Ship Simulator :o

Service Pack 2 at least is essential now, but SP3 would be better ;)

MS upgrades: Rule 1. NEVER EVER download an update until everyone else has tried it, found it doesn't work, bashed their heads against a wall and then found a workaround.

A few more months and I may even TRY to upgrade to windows 98  ;D

When I was in London last month, I went into the science museum (suffering badly due to the governments insistence that it can not charge) and actualy spoke to one of the engineers making a duplicate for the americans (apparently their engineers couldn't follow the plans... so he said) when they were building the one in london, they werent even sure it would work until it was built.

They did computer simulations which were, hmm, inconclusive.

Did you know half of Charlies brain is preserved in london? The other half powers the pentium 5

On one of my earlier computer courses, I had to go into full research-mode for the history of the Babbage 'Analytical Engine'.  Very interesting stuff ;)
