Changing a Dell Graphics card
« on: April 26, 2008, 16:32:45 »

Hi, i have a Dell Dimension 5150 with an ATI Radeon X300 SE which can run SS2008 nice and smooth when it wants to, but can sometimes be a pain. I want to replace it with a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT but my dad says you can't change graphics card in a Dell .

Is this true, and if not, what should i tell my dad?

Nathan, I know what your Dad means I think. It's not IF you can change it in so much as swap the card over, it's more 'if it'll fit' I think. My new only just fit in, severe lack of space inside.

Try to find the measurements, and have a look inside to double check. If it won't, then I'd recommend getting a new case. :)

Dad said no  >:(

What i want to know is why. Surely a computer is better with a new Graphics card, and i'd be paying for it  ::)

Just hit him with a brick go buy it, put it in. And then pour cold water on him.  ;D

(Ok don't do that)

You can imagine the problems my kids had when they pulled stunts like that. I could smell the difference in their computers even if I was in a diferent country!

But if they changed something after I said no, their computers always worked worse. So eventually they would shuffle up and ask me to fix it. Then I would remove the old rubbish card I had put in when they weren't looking and put back the one they had previously installed....

Don't mess with Dad.

  • Dad has maybe twenty of thirty years more experience and cunning than you do. You'll loose!

Lol, but being said, my dad was born in the 50's and doesn't know computers like I do.

I have another little pic for you.
