Me and Trains were having a discussion in Multiplayer an hour or so ago about the Titanic, and he claimed the Titanic and her sisters were American. However, i disagree, just because the White star line was American doesn't mean the ships were American too, does it? The ships was built in Ireland and sailed from Southmpton, so really the only thing the 3 had to do with America was the fact they sailed to the US. Please, no comments saying "the 3 also had this in common with America....", i knowthey are bound to have some thing sin common, but lets focus on the question.

The ships were built in Belfast, Ireland, at H&W ship yards, making them Irish, people who say "they were English" or "they were American" are wrong as its like trying to say i am from England when i was born in Ireland, get the gist?

Well, if the vessels do not fly the Irish flag - they are not Irish. It is as simple as that.

Concerning the Titanic, the port of registry was Liverpool, United Kingdom. British/English but not Irish nor American.

But, they were still built in Ireland in that sence making them Irish. That is my personal belief.

I'll settle for that, its Irish as far as being built goes, but registered as British.

Let me say this, my parent was on holyday in Ireland and I been born there and 5 days after we travel home to Norway , with nationality have i then, if this was true Irish

I know I had been us and Norwegian, I'm born in Canada Vancouver, more exactly a little town north east of Vancouver called squeamish  so I haw also Canadian passport but I'm Norwegian and Canadian Citizen but still I'm Norwegian, I was just one year when we moved back to Norway, but its practical with the Canadian passport, I don't need vi-sum or what it call it in English, and I lived over there with my family in 3 year and cud work also don't need permission sins I am a Canadian to

Titanic and her sisters were built for, and paid for by, White Star Lines—a wholly owned subsidiary of J.P. Morgan’s International Mercantile Marine. They were American owned vessels.
White Star had its English offices in Liverpool; hence Titanic had Liverpool as her home port even though she never visited that port.
Many ships owned by the US and other maritime companies are registered in Liberia or Panama. That does not make those ships Liberian or Panamanian. Titanic was registered in England as a “flag of convenience” and to get the Royal Mail contract.
The fact that she was an American ship is well documented, yet it is still debated along with the many other well established facts that run contrary to the myths. There are still books written in the 21st century that have the helmsman turning the wheel to the right in response to “Hard a’ Starboard”.
That, at least, was one thing Cameron’s picture got right.

The flag that she's under,thats the nationality of a vessel.
If you step onboard a vessel in the harbour,with by example a panamese flag,that you are in panama.
Thats how you have to see it.
On that moment,you are under the rules of the nation flag of that vessel.

Right so we will settle it this way,

They were built in Ireland making them "born" Irish.
Funds were from America.
And registered as British, making them sail under the British flag.

Now we should be all happy

Guys, i knew the ship was Irish, this topic was just to see who believd the ship was american or irish, and to prove to Trains which country the ship belonged to. Before i posted this topic, i knew she was Irish

As soon as you are born you are registered in the country you were born in.

Perhaps is it more complex than that, as each country has specific rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationality_law).

Funnily enough Belfast is in Northern Ireland which is not yet part of the Irish Republic. Belfast is still a British city and was so when "Titanic" was built there. Not that it alters anything, she was still registered in Liverpool, which at the time (Though sadly no more) was the most important seaport in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
