You mean hay-day as in; 'best time of one's carreer' or 'at the height of something's exsistance'?

Does something that fails to serve it's purpose on the very first try have a hay-day, I wonder?  ::)

But was it fascinating?  Yep, it sure was!

Not as much as it is to people nowadays though, I think. People are always fascinated with new things, untill they get replaced with better things, with the exception of certain unique historic events. :)

Hay-day was a mistake of heyday, as I later found.

Anyway, the idea is that with wrecks, people from time to time try to envision what the wrecked object looked like when it was brand new.

Yup I know what you mean.

But if you also, in that proces, get in the frame of mind of the people of that age, and not look at it from a nostalgic point of view as a modern person, it will be very different, I think.

The people back then in that age of constant leaps in technology, were constantly confronted with "the next greatest, biggest, most luxurious, best, modern, etc"  thing. We still have that today, but I somehow think their stuff was more impressive, on a scale of the work involved and how hard that work usually was.

Their fascination would be just as big, but would not have lasted that long, or be as strong, as the nostalgic person in this day and age has with her, that's what I mean.

She was just another ship amongst ships, for a moment the greatest perhaps, but would have been forgotten soon, by the general public, if not for the disaster.

I never have a problem with her title "most famous ship of all times", that is very true, but that "greatest ever" title that is often set right beside it, is just a bit silly to me.   :P

I know they wouldn't have cared much at the time, but after the ship got into a famous incident, it did! She became more popular than her sister and her name lasts the test of time!

The thing about Titanic is that her story almost sounds like some myth or legend invented to prove a point, her name coming to represent an idea, and nearly everyone knows the tale. So finding the actual material wreck, the ghost of the legend itself, is incredible to many.

it is a good idea to have 2 more historical ships. I think I will vote for the Empress of Ireland and the Queen Elizabeth 2

I'll RMS Campania since it is the most likely candidate that Jason De Donno would model after finishing Titanic (IF he feels like modeling more)

Quote
I'm not sure I'd want to do another four funneller. It depends a lot on how much research material is accessible. Research is time consuming and can be frustrating. It can take months if not years. I did at one time think of doing Kaiser Wilhelm, but now I have pretty good collection of RMS Campania plans, so she's a likely candidate for the future.

Research on historic ships usually takes months or years, which is why the RMS Campania is most likely, as Jason already has a sizable amount of info on it. Go RMS Campania!

Hit the button accidentally , also meant to add that TEUTONIC AND OCEANIC were both ships that Thomas Andrews worked on as a junior designer Alos White's Star's Big Four ( CELTIC, CEDRIC, BALTIC, ADRIATIC)

ILE DE FRANCE

AQUITANIA

I don't fully understnadf the prhibition on not having Olympic and Brittnaic/Gignatic,. Since White Star no longer exists as a seperate entity were is the problem? can someone explain?

Id love to have the Edmund Fitzgerald in game, Very tragic her story, I read up a lot on her. Very mysterious too.

I was surprised that her bridge and structure is up front.

A song about her too-

The song "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", By Gordon Lightfoot, is acutally a steal, he wrote the words, but the actual song is an old Irish folk tune called "I wish I was Back Home In Derry"

I don't think Titanic was the greatest ship in history - This one didn't kill 1500 people,

If you want to blame the lifeboats, blame the fact that the lifeboat drill was cancelled because it was on a Sunday, a church day.

"Guess what? Today's ships are accidents waiting to happen because their lifeboats don't carry enough food stanchions to last 30 days at sea!"

There are some things that people don't think are possible until it's too late.

Oh sorry - that only killed 8.

The really sad thing is, that these ships weren't great at all, but some Hollywood Director made som bige fancy Movie about one of the ships, and suddenly it became all "Great" and "Famous". But look closer, and it was nothing more than a Disaster waiting to happen.

I can repeat this as many times as you like. I think you'll also find that in her 40+ year Career, the number of fatalities on QE2: 1.
