giles solution ??? whats that ?

The Agile Solution, the blue container ship in the Add-On (In real life the "Deo Volente") That seems to have a different name on the bow, but i think they are almost identical in design.

Nice pics anyway  :)

I don't think that's the Arie Visser but one of her sisters.

The Arie Visser has West-Terschelling as it's home port.

The one in Breskens is called "Zeemanshoop"  (Sailor's hope)

The Arie Visser class boats and their ports:

Arie Visser - West-Terschelling
Koning Willem 1 - Schiermonnikoog
Zeemanshoop - Breskens
Koopmansdank - Noordland-Burghsluis
Koos van Messel - IJmuiden
Anna Margaretha - Ballumerbocht (Ameland)
Jeanine Parqui - Hoek van Holland
Joke Dijkstra - Den Helder

Fred

The vessel on the background is the 'schotsman'

Come, come, svenuske1 said he had seen THE "Arie Visser". Fred has pointed out that he did not see that vessel but the "Zeemanshoop" in port at Breskens. So it is a little rude to say he is absolutely wrong, when in fact he is absolutely right. A class of vessel is NOT the vessel itself is it? ???

Angus.
NB. If you save svenuske1's picture no3 and then enlarge it you will clearly see the name "ZEEMANSHOOP" on the cabin side.

Indeed.. the Arie Visser itself is the "flagship" of her class, so to speak..

So all of them are an Arie Visser class lifeboat, of which Arie Visser is one..

You said that you saw "the arie" there... which you didnt.. you saw an Arie Visser class boat, the Zeemanshoop.  ;)

So I wasn't rong, I was wright.  ;D

Regards,
Fred

P.S.  Cheers, Angus and danoth!  ;)

Fred,
Going off subject a little, what a beautifully evocative name to give to a lifeboat, "Seamans Hope", I do not speak Dutch in my terrible ignorance, but is the vessel called "Koopmansdank" a similar play upon the rescue theme? Something to do with "Thanks" perhaps? Am I rong or wright?

You should have said an Arie visser.. not the Arie..   ;D

That was why I said what I said, because it wasn't the Arie itself.. But yes, you are right, you did see an Arie Visser class lifeboat.  ;D

Angus,

The Koopmansdank is indeed to do with thanks...  koopman = merchant.  dank = thanks.  So it's like Merchant's thanks.  But a better translation would be 'Merchant's gratitude' or something like that... Related to the merchant shipping owing to the lifeboats and their crews in time of troubles on the seas.

Regards,
Fred

Fred,
What very nice names you Dutch give your lifeboats. Most of ours are named afterthe person who donated the cash to build them. I think that is understandable though. Thanks for clearing up the meaning of Koopmansdank.
