I think I'm right in saying that the chimney on the Titanic wasn't actually in use. It was put there to give a symetrical look as having three funnels in place would look odd. I think Brittanic used all four funnels.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong :)

The Titanic movie is not a proper source for facts about the Titanic. Surely you know all movies aren't always realistic?

Don't always believe everything you see in films ;)

The 4th funnel was just there to make the ship look more impressive, and it acted as an air vent.

And indeed, Hollywood is not a good source for accurate historical facts.

Guys,
I hope we are not about to see all the old Titanic myths—like the wheel being backwards, etc.
There are extensive postings about her on this forum. You might want to read them all before bringing up old issues.

To be honest it's only a painting so it could be wrong. You need some proper photographic evidence ;)

Power plant - 29 coil stoked boilers, each 3 stories high. The boilers used 3 of the stacks for exhaust, the fourth was used to vent Titanics' numerous kitchens and galleys. The stacks were 22 feet wide and 62 feet high

I hate to be a killjoy, but the things are called funnels (this was a ship built in Belfast, UK, and the term "stack" is American) If we must rake the subject over and over, let's be precise. :o ;) As most folks know White Star line wanted her to look powerful and impressive so they needed four funnels purely for that reason. :-*
