good afternoon chaps,

I am sending this ( my 100th message ) from onboard the caladonian macbrain vessle argyle on my way to rothesay, isle of bute.

I will post pictures on my return to Glasgow as to the 3 ships that I would like Vstep to model *Hint* *Hint* LOL

there are only three pictures worth you guys seeing. There are many other picutres but none of which are worth you guys seeing they are rather personal* and i am not disclosing why.

The first picture is of the "box" that is MV Argyle built in g'dansk in 2006/7.
The 2nd picture is of the Cloch Lighthouse (im not sure if this it the right name)
the last picture is of the MV Saturn & MV Coursk at rothesay changing places the saturn was comming into service for the 1230? Rothesay - Wemyss Bay.

*anyone who finds a "dirty" meaning to this i will hold no responcibility for the words/actions taken because of this.

because as the coursk was leaving she gave 4 long blasts to the saturn...

I think it means : "you are sinking"...but I"m not sure...

All kidding aside, I recently started a topic about the meaning of horn signals, but no mention there of 4 long blasts..The only thing close is 5 short blasts, meaning: Beware, get out of the way...or don't do what your signals indicate you are about to do ..

It could be just their personal salute to each other..

Just thinking out loud.. I can't find it either in the "official lists" that are out there on the net..

So maybe they just picked a non existing on and made that their own greeting signal or something.. Or is that too far "out there" ?

I would think this was just an extension of the more widely known 3 long blasts farewell salute.

Saturn was taking over from Coruisk so that Coruisk could go up North to start her Mallaig - Armadale run, which I believe is staring early this year because Easter is early.

Saturn shouldn't really have been back on that run now the side loading linkspan has gone, but Bute is still finishing off overhaul, so Saturn is needed for a few days.

I think Saturn is the best looking of the three "streakers" (Juno, Jupiter, Saturn). When I worked on the Clyde she was known as the "Star Turn" as she was always breaking down!

She would be great to have in the game & the Clyde would be a great area with all of the variety of ferry types + the Waverley and puffers like VIC 32.

Great pix, that's Toward Point Lighthouse, I think (at the end of the Cowal penninsula), Cloch lighthouse is on the other side of the river (near Gourock).

and yup saturn should be the better of the 3 streakers (technically 4 if you included the pioneer) since (i believe she was overhauled)

and yup i thought the corusk was going to her maliag run...

Pioneer is a great looking ship too.

I think the large painted lions on the funnels of Saturn make her look better than metal lions of Juno/Jupiter, the small lions on their funnels actually came off of some of the earlier turbine vessel "King George V"

Hi saltydog, for example, cruise ships use it regularly on departure, Waverley uses it at each pier at the end of each season. However, I would suggest it is still an unofficial signal as there are those who would say it is the Man Overboard signal. One possible reason why Couruisk may have given 4 blasts rather than 3 and why some will tag a short blast on after the 3.

iv put the question to that on the "ships of calmac" forum....see if they know.

and i didnt realise that waverley done that at the end of the season.

also this season is going to be VERY difficult for waverley since Rothesay peir has had its side linkspan taken out....and looks like they have put metal poles in to prohibit anyone/thing using that section of the peir...god help waverley...

altho calmac did give her, her due last year with a big cerimony and an escort into rothesay bay...which is nice since some of their masters have no respect for her, what she stands for or anything else. When the "streakers" where on the rothesay run if they could they would make way for waverley as much as they could these two new ones couldnt give a damn...they have to run to schedual in short no minutes over and no minutes under...which is tragic because if they left early then everyone would be happy....the shortest turn around iv seen of those two new vessles is around 5 minutes using the old side linkspan and thats because she was late.

nope shes not allowed to do that anymore on the account of her nearly beaching herself because its far too shallow at the enterance.
