Hopefully the Bugsier tug is strong enough to handle the Vermaas and Latitude  ;D

In real, the "Bugsier 2" is an Azimuth Tractor Tug with enough power to tow the VERMAAS under all conditions, incl. the tidal influence of the river Elbe or offshore! "Bugsier 2" would tow the VERMAAS with an average speed of 7 knots, well not at once and not against the first tide of course! The propulsion units are Aquamaster Azimuth Thrusters, comparable to the Schottel-Rudder-Propeller type, but with a slightly different clutch management.

It'll be good to have a tug that actually tows things.  I've been trying to tow Vermaas with two Sherpas but no way. Not side by side nor in tandem.   With my experience of tugs I feel all the existing tugs are underpowered - can they be beefed up?
Not very realistic having to use the stricken ship to kick start the tow and even this is impossible with a static ship.
VSTEP have done such a good job with the sim it's a bit disappointing that:
1 the tugs don't tug and 2 they cause damage when trying to push when in real life they would be festooned with rope fenders.

It seems to not so easy to fix that problem. We did some trials with the small tugboat last year, improving it's power. But with that low mass of itself, nothing helps. The tugboat heads up the bow instead a better towing. Same with the Russian tug "Igor K.". The problems with the damage should be easier to fix. Guess they have done it already.

I think one of the main problems with the towing is that the hawser has no weight so we get a direct pull rather than the real life curve where vectors come into play.  Often when towing a heavy ship the cable or hawser is actually allowed to sink and then power applied gradually so that the water actually takes some of the load.  This is probably nigh on impossible within the constraints of the game but it is a pity to have so many tugs and now way of towing - I assume that reducing the mass of the lager ships would affect how they behave under their own power?
I know this is not the right place to talk about new ships but it partly fits in with the ability to tow lighter ships.  i think the game needs a smaller tanker which can actually go into all the environments and a medium sized passenger ship of standard rather than high speed engines so that we can have passenger trips up and down the rivers, calling at various places.

I'm not complaining, I think VSTEP are doing a great job.

Hello thassos / Bottman

I'm not trying to be the wise guy here, but out of interest to the part you mentioned:

It'll be good to have a tug that actually tows things.  I've been trying to tow Vermaas with two Sherpas but no way. Not side by side nor in tandem.

Are you sure, it was the 2 Sherpa's who did the towing, or did you mean the small harbor tugs?

The Sherpa's do that kind of work very well and one is enough ! ;D

I expect the Bugsier 2 is able to do the job in SS2008, otherwise it wouldn't be logic to put it in, isn't it.

Yes it was 2 Sherpas but it was a static Vermaas I wanted to move - I was just experimenting really to see how best to set up a towing mission.
There is a mission where a "static" Redjet is towed so the principle is obviously OK but the Vermaas just didn't want to move.  I left it for 20 minutes while I was doing something else but when I returned the speed was still zero.

Hi thassos,

Sorry about that, I didn't read that part good enough.  :-[

I just simulated that situation (static VERMAAS) and you are absolut correct: no movement what so ever !

I support your comments, to hope that VSTEP is able to fix that, for the fun of good towing simulations.

I would like to believe, that this is still the goal:

I expect the Bugsier 2 is able to do the job in SS2008, otherwise it wouldn't be logic to put it in, isn't it.

Hi tman,

Lending out your game to someone else is NOT allowed!!  ;)

You better get it back ASAP. You did read the license agreement when you checked the "Yes" box and accepted the terms, right??

Aha..

Well in that case, I haven't said anything.. I read it as "gave it to someone else" ..lent it to someone.. etc..

My apologies, tman, I misunderstood!

Hi Acidmax, welcome to the forum..  :)

There are a few threads about "which environments would you like to see in the game" allready.
You can find more about such suggestions if you look in the "feature requests and suggestions" board.
Or, alternatively, you can use the search option to check if there are relevant topics before you post something.

You've gone and replied about the Auckland harbour making a nice addition in two topics that are about something alltogether different, so may I suggest you place such remarks in the appropriate topics instead?

Cheers!!

Regards,
Fred

I'm looking forward to the new add-on. Can't wait to sail the classic yatch ;D

Also I'm looking forward to sailing around in the Cornwall environment, it looks really nice and would be home to a lot of various missions.

Can't wait ;D
