Jahre Viking / Knock Nevis
« on: February 20, 2008, 21:23:04 »

I've done plenty of searches on this forum and it appears that no one is developing the Jahre Viking.
But plenty of people want it in the game.

I've started modeling it so tell me if there is a reason it's not being developed and I should stop.

Or scream Hazzah if you want to see the Jahre Viking in Ship simulator.

Hazzah... but...

You know about sketchup...  So unless you switched, you will only have a nice collection of pictures to put on the forum.  ;D

Plus, that ship would be too big to be used in most, if not all, port enviroments. In RL, she cant even navigate through the English channel I think.   :)

There are two ports in the world large enough for the Jahre Viking one is Rotterdam and another is off the coast of Brazil...

Also I thought You thought it was only the .skp extention that was not exepted.

Hello,
When she was still navigating the fully loaded draft was 24.6 m, so that she could go through the English Channel and along the deep water routes, to the North Sea and Norway.
To reach the Europoort, she needed certainly to go with the tide or be at least partially unloaded, unlike TI Asia or Berge Stahl, the deep water route in the Maasgeul being apparently 23.4m plus tide height.
And can most offshore sites and terminals not be reached by those ULCCs?

Luc

You are forgetting at least another one : Antifer, near Le Havre in France.
Antifer is an oil terminal with jetties, built for the ULCC more than 500 000 tons.

Ok, I admit it's not a real port for all kind of cargo...  ;)

I doubt that the game version of Rotterdam will take it.. but I may be wrong.  :)

As for the .skp, nope, as I said in that other thread, I think it's more than just the extension, as you can export it with the pro version and it will still not be accepted, even though it's then no longer .skp

But as I also said, I am no expert. I just know that there's a few really good sketchup models out there, yet VSTEP has said that these will not be suited for use.

Hoy guy's,
Well,we are trying to get the "Berge Stahl"into the game. That vessel is build by Dejan.
For the moment, you can use that vessel only on the "Maasvlakte"and should be able to get her on her original berthingplace at "EMO"in de mississippiharbour.
The second place where you can use it at the moment is the ocean area.
For the moment it's all a bit limited, however,if you start the game with that vessel,on the oceanpart, and go to her berthingplace in Rotterdam.I think it would keep you busy for some time.
You shouls use harbourtugs, and i think its a very good vessel for multiplayer.
If you want to make the "Jahre Viking",i think its to soon for it right now.First we have to create more harbours, where those vessels can fit in.
Regards

Sorry to raise such an old topic but...what ever happened to this vessel? Do you still have it's file, llamalord? Could we at least see some pics?

There's allready been attempts to get Goax' Jahre Viking in the game, but alas.. no permission has been given untill now, so vstep cannot use it.

So as an active project, this would be stuck.. Even though of course it's not Goax' project here...  But just FYI regarding the ship as such.

I just love the way how Nick loudly & cool announces his models & designs the head posts in his topics which are then slowly but surely going in to nothingness!

I know that my topic die into nothing, that is because all that have seen it and care enough to post have nothing else to say.  Also my models unlike so many of the model projects on this forum actually go somewhere.  I was invited to pilot the last CoalFired SteamShip in America by the power of my models alone.

And as for this topic, This was almost two years ago, Back when I had no clue what kind of work would go into this.  I admit that I did not always have the limited wisdom and commonsense that I do now.

It would be great to have a large vessel in the game and Ship Sim 2010 is now Ship Simulator Extremes. But right nw, Latitude is our largest tanker with Vermaas as the largest container vessel in SS08, SSPro and SSE
