War of Simulators
« on: February 20, 2008, 20:52:10 »

Know I did this on the old Ship Simulator forum 2 years ago, but I just wanna do it again ;D! Latest Virtual Sailor release is Virtual Sailor 7. I have downloaded the Demo Version of Virtual Sailor 7 and it seems good, but I've always thought Ship Simulator 2008 is way better than Virtual Sailor 7. But let's start the 2nd Ship Simulator vs. Virtual Sailor War!!

I vote SS08.

I bought VS7 (I know!! I know!!)

I'm not impressed with it. Not for that price.

Most addons are ugly, half finished and lack a proper helm view (I dont like looking at C64 like graphics). The waves are nice but ships react weird to the higher ones. The graphics are poor, the dynamics often weird and totally off. The underwater aspect is nice, for 30 minutes. Sailing vessels are nice too, but it's done much better in other sims.

I wont be playing it much, I think.  :)

BMW is much better than Volvo. Why? I don't know...
Xbox suchs because Playstation IS better... you see.. I'm just joking. I don't even have a Xbox 360 yet. :D

I vote for them both because I know that each game have their own bugs, missing parts and I cud continue forever. But I have one nail on the Ship Simulator simply because it smells more quality of this simulator than Virtual Sailor. VS is driven by add-on developers and it's not the developer himself that makes the exiting content. In opposite VSTEP makes all the content for Ship Simulator and sometimes add ship models made by others into the game. This is the quality control that makes this sim look good and far better than Virtual Sailor when it comes to graphics. When it comes to simulation I see these games as 50/50. They all have their ups and downs when it comes to physics.

So after this mini review I give Ship Simulator 5 points more for keeping a higher graphics and quality control so I don't have to see poor Ketshup models being developed for this game. There are dozens of poor ship models made for Virtual Sailor that would not care to download because it's made by a "wannabe" that have a very simply view of 3D modelling and texturing without thinking a second on making the ship model a "little" bit more realistic.

And if I did say this on the official game forum for Virtual Sailor I know what would happen. I would be banned, because it's impossible to review someones add-on at the forum or to post constructive criticism. That's the reason why we Norwegians that use VS stick to our own forum. The official forum for VS is described in one single word: minefield with ticking bombs. Stay away! :P
Expressing your personal opinion on that forum is not always a good idea...You have my signature on that one :D

Greetings,
I voted Shipsim,offcource!!
I've seen this game growning from the first beginning.

Do i check others, yes, offcource! Just to see how and what they look like, graphics scenery..a.s.o...
By looking to the others, you can look for some more idea's to,than is the challenge to make them better.

Regards
Marc

I voted for SS too (as i think has everyone else!  :o ) I have been a member since July 06 and seen this Simulator grow.   Have looked at VS, and while some of the graphics are better and you can visit more places as well as a greater range of ships...its just not realistic!   Would much prefer to have  smaller range of vessels and areas to sail in, but with much more realism in the way the vessels handle and react to the waves!

 :D

Happy sailing All

So who was the one person who voted for VS7 (=> Anti Ship Simulator)? Must have been an accidental key press.

Hey guys,

I played Ports Of Call a while ago, its a fun game, and they were starting to get very nice views (ports, shores, harbours) yet, the game is based on the cargo's, you have to get them from one port to another without exeeding the date's, you also have to load (virtualy) different cargo's to fill up your vessel based on getting the maximum dollar, one cargo sometimes has to be delivered in two or more different ports, and different dates, it has potential in the future i think.
Even the stockmarket is included, you can also change the time of day in each game at any time, nighttime in POC is very realistic (buoys, harbourlights, lighthouses, entrance of certain ports)
Maybe they improved it since the last time i played it (2 years)
There is one thing i always found very practical in POC, as soon you were in the vincinity of your destination you could change one of the views to the one supposed to be the destination, so in other words you had a view from the quay, that i found spectacular (to see you come in to your berth being a linesman)

So, thats about it... if any questions... shoot...
