Can someone model a ship for SS08? The name of the ship is "Weser Stahl", it´s a smaller ship as the berge stahl,

here are pictures of the ship:

Well, I can tell you in advance, if you model it with sketchup, it will unfortunatly not meet the standards required to be placed in SS08.  ;)

Which sadly is a waste, as there are some really good sketchup models. like the AIDA one, that won't get in the game :(

I agree, some are really good. So I wonder, why do people that obviously have these skills, use substandard software to make their models?   ;D

(yes I know.. those programs are expensive... :P)

i can also make it  ;)

but the problem of sketch up is, the black lines are also placed into the model, even you smooth all of it :'(

When you make up a model in Sketchup, black lines appear. These are called edges ;)

You can turn them off though :)

You can turn them off.   View > Edge Style > uncheck "display edges".  (and possible any others you have checked there that you want to turn off)

(or see screenshots.. but don't laugh at my ship.. It's very very basic and I abandoned that, I just wanted to see what all the ketchup fuss was about so apart from the hull it's just the outline.)

That should give a smooth, lineless result.

Thanks  ;D

I didn't make that hull in sketchup so it wasn't as hard as it may look. Still took some time though  :)

when i turn the edges off and then export the model so i can import it into a other program, the edges are there again :-\

Hey Mr. Robville..

Well AFAIK, thge "egdes off" option doesn't actually get rid of the edges, they are just invisible. So the underlying geometry will of course always be there and might then indeed come up again when you export it.

I'm no expert, far from it, but it seems logical.  :)

Hi lukkitheshipper

Well, you have to bare in mind, that people don't just make a decent model in a few hours. These things  take time, and a lot of it, to get right.

And most people with the skills to make decent models are allready busy doing one or more projects anyway.
So they might not all jump on such a suggestion right away or have something ready very soon.

You could always download one of the free 3d modeling programs yourself and start learning. The easy ones like Sketchup are pretty simple to get the hang of. As far as requesting this ship to go in SS. You can probably wait forever. There are so many requests out there allready....   ;D
