There was an arguement between myself (no, honestly!) and someone else about this in relation to the expected repair bills.

When I was once on a ship in Port Louis harbour, Mauritius, we were discharging a Rolls Royce car for the Governor. (Shows how long ago that was) Anyway the sling bust, and the car went for a swim. No one was very pleased about that.

I believe it was salvaged and returned to the Crewe factory and completely rebuilt.

I once had a five-day â€œcruiseâ€ in the graving dock there, while the crown gear on the after Voith-Schneider propeller was replaced. Itâ€™s a lovely island with great food and gorgeous beaches. The first time I was there, they had just become independent. Iâ€™d left San Diego before I got a visa, and had to visit the High Commissionerâ€™s office in Colombo to get one. Memories.

Sorry I'm no help to you here. It was in the 50's when I was there, and I never managed to get ashore. As you guessed the island was still a British colony then. Oh hell, thats half a century ago, makes me feel even older than I am.

And I suggested the rowboat beneath...but i said it will fall down!!!
