Ship Sim - happy developer

So I was chatting with my brother (a mega yacht captain stuck by bad weather near Panama this morning) and I happened to notice he has this game that I've never heard of... and I'm a dedicated sim lover, so I was naturally interested...  I immediately downloaded the demo and loved it.

I was thinking that other yacht crew types and just boat lovers like myself would like to see the developer of this game happy and financially taken care of.  To that end... is this game promoted in yacht crew or boating forums or other places boat lovers are likely to spot it?

What is being or can be done to promote this game and keep the dev team happy?  What is wanted or needed or not wanted and not needed?  I'd like to *try* to do my part so just wondering if anyone has promotional thoughts or ideas in this regard.

Well this game appears to be getting good press in maritime magizines so I'm sure if you just do the best to spread the word around and encourage others to buy the game then you will have done more to help the game sell than anyone could ask of you.  And I'm sure the developers will appreciate the benefits too...  ;D

I found it while on Auran looking at Trainz stuff. And they were selling ship simulator. so I went and checked it out. ;)

I spotted it on the demo disk of PC Gamer (UK) and enjoyed it so much I bought the game as soon as i saw it on a shop shelf.

I have MS Flight Sim 2000, never could get the hang of it but I only bought it because there was no Ship Sim at that time. Did an internet search when chatting to my Wife about PC games and as we are both ex Royal Navy made a download purchase as soon as we found it.

It's very interesting actually to see where people did hear of the game!  And it shows the wide net of publicity that is cast, so that answers my question if the word is out on it very well.

As someone who loves the game, it's just hard to imagine that every single simulator player out there doesn't know about, have and love this game - I'm probably going to develop some sort of attitude around sim players "WHAT?  You call yourself a sim gamer and you haven't got Ship Sim?" - complete with incredulous look and maybe even a little lip pursing thrown in on the end for a nice finish.

I tried out the demo of the new Rail Sim yesterday, it's nice but well, I guess I'm more of a ship guy.. ;)

I tried the demo of Rail Sim a few weeks ago, shame only a steam loco is given to test, although the game does look promising  :)

To be fair, the bulk of a train sim would involve simply adjusting the speeding up and slowing down at the right times.  The real attraction is watching the locomotives snake their way through the scenery.  In ship sim you have the added challenge of being able to move a boat in any direction and the rather more complex physics of a boat on water to contend with.

A good point Cap’n D,
Most who try to compare the two lose sight of the fact that in Trainz, the physics is mainly about a single velocity vector. Everything else is constrained by the track. Trains to not move through a viscous and non-homogeneous medium that has a large effect on them.
Because of the very simple physics involved, and the fact that trains need only sit on track rather than be immersed in a medium with which they interact in a very complicated manner, adding rolling stock as individual items that can be downloaded and exist as separate file sets, is far more easy.

Pjotr has explained, very clearly, what is involved in adding ships, and why it will probably never be possible for users to create and add ships by themselves.
He has also offered a good alternative in a partnership between user and VSTEP. The principle drawback is that the user can’t tinker, but must be capable of doing a workmanlike job before submitting his model to VSTEP. However, anyone who is good or has the patience to become good can get the ship he wants.
