You can't mod the demo, you will have to buy the full game.  So you may want to wait until SS 2008.

Meaning you cracked open the demo so that you wouldn't have to pay for the full game, right?

Altering any game files is in breach of the games EULA (End User Licence Agreement), not just Ship Simulator, but every game.....unless it is otherwise stated.

When you 'purchase a game', you are actually only 'purchasing a licence' to play that game.  The game remains the property of the company and when you click Accept on the licensing agreement page, you are accepting the fact that you will abide by anything in that agreement.

Check the link here for more information on the general terms of a EULA.

for InfoWorld veteran Ed Foster's thoughts on EULAs, which are often rediculously limiting.

Just a quick note for anyone who doesn't know:

Mods (Modifications) in their simplest form, are usually additions to a game, they do not alter the original game files.  They can do things such as, take the game in a new direction (missions etc.).

Anything altering the original content is classed as a breach in the EULA, take for example Battlefield 2, altering any original game files (with mods or otherwise) can cause repercussions for online play. Anyone that plays it will know that Punkbuster (Anti-cheat) will kick you from a server if it detects any alterations ;)

Hope this clears things up a little :)

Traditional mods I am fine with, and have no problem with anyone doing such a thing. With the new ship editor, we encourage gamers to make their own mods. However, in this case, you knew exactly to which I was referring - to your modifying the demo. That is unacceptable.

Yes certain games have mods due to developers promoting the game community though most of these 'sanctioned' mods dont actually alter the games code in any shape or form hence why the devs are happy with it, take the endless supply of interface mods for World of Warcraft for example.
Mods that alter, remove or edit the games coding for malicious or other reasons, such as yours appears to have done, are against the games EULA, which as pointed out by the esteemed mods here, is a form of legally binding document, breaking this constitutes breaking the law ie a CRIMINAL OFFENCE!, be careful what you do and don't go broadcasting this sort of thing so openly, it may bite you in the arse one day.

Andy

@ Ozy783, (me too, I like bashing, sorry everybody, is it the right word and is it the most unkindest cut of all?)
What you appear having done is not a CRIME as long as not being condemned, and you would become liable to all penalties of the Terrorist Act if you infringed the License Agreement, cited by others as EULA.
Indeed, from now on, you lose any right to be declared not guilty, having not yet been condemned.
And that although you described having not changed the code and that you perhaps acted with no malicious reasons. You surely did it in good, not bad faith.
In fact, you committed modifications, making the same changes as for reskinning the Harbor Patrol Boat, which was not authorized explicitly, or like savage modifications to the dynamics.
Do not infer that while most popular games cited (WW, FS, SH3, VS, MS, Andreas what is that?) can be modded - and are encouraged to - that any public consent of CRIMINAL OFFENCE could be excused, even if it was unvoluntarily.

Come on, anyone else?
Luc

Terrorist act in a EULA for this game??? LOL! ;D Maybe Bin Laden is playing it already... :P

Four points!

1. He did buy the full game.

2. If VStep is paying attention they will realise hes just pointed out a weak point in security of the game which maybe even at this late stage they can rectify for 08.

3. There is no 3rd point.

4. See points 1 and 2.

Hi Pieter! :)

It is not possible for you to bring the SS2006 vessels to SS2008. The add-on for SS2006 will be available for SS2008 later this year. You can read more about this in the FAQ or search the forums (I guess this is one of top 10 most asked questions on the forum... ;) )

The manoeuvring characteristics of the SS2006 vessels were unrealistic but they were improved in the later patches. I remember that the harbour tug of the original version was almost like driving a car, and of course, this was not the intension. It was simply too accurate and if you got used to that, you will get the feeling that the updated version is unaccurate, but that was the intension.
