PROJECT- Emma Meearsk
« on: November 09, 2007, 11:54:52 »

Hi Guys

New to Ship Sim & the Forum so just having a look around and I have no idea as to how to 'build' a ship yet. Having seen the pervious thread about the Emma Maersk details of her are below (would love to see her on Ship Sim!)

Quoted from an e-mail from a freind of mine...
"Now I know how Wal Mart gets all its stuff from China. By the World's Largest Cargo Ship. Get a load of this  ship! 15,000 containers and a 207' beam !!!!!! And look at the crew size for  a ship longer than a US aircraft carrier which has a complement of 5,000 men and officers.

Think it's big enough?  Notice that 207' beam means it was NOT designed for the Panama or Suez canal.  It is strictly transpacific. Check out the 'cruise speed'. 31 knots  means the goods arrive 4 days before the typical container ship (18-20 knots)  on a China-to-California  run. So this behemoth is hugely competitive carrying perishable goods.

This ship was built in  three, perhaps as many as five sections. The sections floated together and  then welded.
The ship is named Emma Maersk.
The command bridge is higher than a 10 store  building and has 11 crane rigs that can operate simultaneously.
Additional info:
Country of origin - Denmark
Length - 1,302 ft
Width - 207 ft
Net cargo - 123,200  tons
Engine - 14 in-line  cylinders diesel engine (110,000 BHP) Cruise Speed - 31 knots, Cargo capacity  - 15,000 TEU (1 TEU = 20 ft3 container)

Crew - 13 people First Trip - Sept. 08, 2006  Construction cost - US $145,000,000+
Silicone painting  applied to the ship bottom reduces water resistance and saves 317,000 gallons  of diesel per year. "

Good luck with the project!

Greetings,
Yes, this would be great, however Maersk does not give the permission to use any of her vessels in the game.
So it has to stay,on the drawningboard, for the moment.

I remember someone saying that P&O wouldn't allow Vstep to put one of their liners on SS, i don't see what the problem is. :(

Is that one of the ferries or one of the cruise ships?

I think the Pride of Rotterdam, has become a green light from P&O.Otherways name en logo where not allowed in the game.

If you putt a vessel in the game without permission of the company's,you can have problems with the copyrights. That's the reason.

locutus-mouse :
I love the emma maersk she is a wonderful ship.
I was going to model it  my self about a week ago, however, i thought i shouldm finish off the other 2 modles i am working on at the moment.
I know that Maersk doesn't allow it but i will model the ship without the Maersk Line Logo on it

Hey guys

I've been sailing this ship a few times, and yes she is a big ship, but not too big for Suez, and she can definately not go 31 knots! =) 25 at max even though thats pretty fast as well.
The ship was built in a normal drydock, assembled from prewelded cubes of about 20x20x20m, as soon as it can float its dragged outside the drydock and the keel is laid for the next ship.
The ship has, obviously, no cranes except for the small provisioncranes by the accomodation.
The ship does not come to california, some of its sisterships might (we have 7 of them) but the ship in question is currently deployed between northern europe and the far east.

This is the ship on her maiden voyage through Suez.

I think the reason the company refrains from allowing you to add it to the game has to do with the culture of perfectionism. If the model indeed were to be added the company would by default be held responsible for the result, be it good or bad. I hope this explains it, although I as well as you would love this ship ingame :)
Happy sailing!

Martin from Denmark

Hi several years back when I was with my father on a maersk ship I remember the bridge almost looks the same as this one, same kind of walls and floor and other stuffs, I think the bridge looks very old for a newer ship as Emma Maersk, what do you guys think? Shouldn't it look a bit newer?

I do have to agree with another topic that I think we need medium sized boats, but maybe one more would be OK. ;D
