I have a problem with SS08
I will install the base game is the game works and how I install the update to 1.4.2 that includes a loading bar vstep and shows a blue window and the game does not work. I have windows 7

if you have the Cd version of ship sim 2008 check back of box in bottom left hand corner( patched to version x.xx) that will tell you version you have purchased if it is 1.4.2 you do not require the update as i did the same  similar to yours. it may be worth reinstalling again using advice above.
