Little bugs addon 2008
« on: October 15, 2007, 23:00:43 »

Hi there, I've been enjoying the addon all evening, its great to have some new ships to play around with (didn't had the addon before with ss 2006). Nevertheless I noticed that in heavy seas some of the new ships behave a bit strange, the fishingboat seems a bit too boyant (excuse me for bad spelling) and the (great ship!!) coaster seems to bury itself  :o into the sea when taking waves head-on (see picture included), note that this ship is not sinking! It seems that the pitching motion is amplified everytime it is going up and down untill the bow completely submerges  :-\

I have also noticed that the Cruiser Liner Ocean Star's steering is a bit eccentric. Especially when you had a hard turn and then straights the azimuth pods, the vessel is still turning for a wee while.

Otherwise, an excellent job by the VSTEP guys to bring these add-on ships for SS2008.

Greetings,
It's normal that a vessel, keeps a turning for a short while(very short while). The mass of a vessel, that turns, want to keep on turning. To stop that a bit quicker get your rudder in the opposite side, for a short time.
This can work.

hi all,

enjoying the new addon, however has anyone else noticed that teh ship dynamics for Ocean Star are a bit messed up!

I,ve been trying to create a new mission using ocean star but whilst doing some testing i noticed something when turning the vessel around usually with the pods at 90 deg with or without bow thruster the vessel starts turing steadly usually at about a 20 deg turn rate then suddenly starts to spin like its a washing machine and reaches turn rates of 650 deg plus!!!!

No but maybe Vstep should market as a new way to clean your cloths for that fresh sea breeze smell!  :D

seriously though Ocean star does spin more than a little quickly, try it Marty!

Hi,

It is not a patch. This is the 2008 version of the SS2006 Addon.

If you own the 2006 Addon and you have registered its license key to your forum profile, then it is available for free, as a download.

If you do not own the 2006 Addon, then you will have to patient. The addon so far is not complete yet, it only contains the ships. Soon the missions will follow and once the package is complete, it will be available for purchase.

If you do have the 2006 addon and register your license key, you will receive a download link and license key in your forum profile.

Also, the official announcement is here: http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,3052.0.html

Regards,

Fred

:( It is starting to get an old story, I can understand when you launch a new game, you'd have some bugs, but common guys, an addon like this is easily tested. It is obvious it wasn't tested. Alltough I still think it is a great game, I find it a bit insulting towards the buyers of the game. Vstep should get their act together or this will cause them to lose customers. Never thought I would post a reply like this, Vstep better fix the behaviour of the ships quick!

And I would also appreciate if they would look into the reason why the AI traffic in the missions does not move anymore.

So far every mission I have played has either traffic that does NOT move, or traffic that moves in very strange ways, backwards and sideways and colliding with walls and each other.

I like this game and I enjoy the new addition but now I can't play missions anymore. Free roaming does not have this problem for me so far but that's getting old very fast now..

I agree that the add-on needs more testing. The early release was due to a demand by the German publisher - so this isn't VSTEP decision. The development of the add-on continues until it's ready for sale at the SS website.

As the official announcement states, there will be a free mission pack for the add-on available later on, and as far as I know, this pack will also include the updates made to the add-on.

The AI traffic bug you are talking about has already been reported.

Hi micha :)

I agree that your pictures show some violent pitching and it may be a bit too much. But you also have to remember that no skilled captain would take huge waves head on at full speed, especially when the wavelength seems to be critical for a ship of that length. The hull will be heavily stessed.

It's difficult to say how realistic this behaviour is, because you simply won't see such a ship in these conditions.

Yeah, here we go again, it is the same story everywhere, there should be laws about that type of behaviour. It's like buying a car with an engine which is not working ( Yeah we know the engine doesn't work, but we'll fix that later on)  ;)
Must allmost be as frustrating for the developers as it is for the customer.  :P Don't these suits understand most of us rather wait a month longer for a good product than putting up with bugs, crashes etc.. It's giving Vstep a bad name, all in the name off profit, which it isn't I'm sure.  :'(

I don't think 4 meter waves are that high for a 100m+ ship, on youtube are lots of clips with waves much higher, taken on board ships of similar size and head on.
like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQbN3nnshOw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQbN3nnshOw) (by the way you better turn the volume down)  ;)

Great link! Thanks! :) I'm glad I'm not on board that ship!

But the video isn't really showing how much of the ship is out of the water. I definitely think the bulb is uncovered and if you look at the waves you will see that the wave length in the video is far greater than the wave length in SS.

I think that one shows that it's really possible to dig deep down the waves like the Agile does in SS.

Yes it does dig down quite deep  :o , but I still think the Agile overdoes it a bit  ::)

The good thing about such rough seas is that most work on board are suspended.  ;D

Ah, that must be the reason why there are so many "bad weather" clips on youtube, its the only free time they have to shoot video's   ;)

Hi folks, a couple of things I've found so far.

The Russian Tug Igor K, if she is sailing along flat out and then I pull her back to, say 20% ahead, her speed drops back just about as quickly as the revs do, she doesn't lose way as slowly as I would expect.

The new modern cargo ship, at max RPM it is showing 5000 RPM. I didn't think she had a very-high-speed diesel.

Hi StewartM :)

Thanks for reporting. VSTEP is currently working on improving the add-on and a update will be available along with the mission pack.

The RPMS aren't realistic, on Titanic the RPM is also 5000, and we know for sure the engines on Titanic can't got 5000 revs per minute, they only do about 100-300 I think.

Another one I've found which is a repeat of a problem from the past on another boat and was fixed for it.

The new speedboat turns the wrong way when using engines to steer. In other words, pull back the starboard engine and you'd expect her to turn to starboard, but she goes to port and vice versa.

Likewise, with her stationary, go ahead starboard and astern port, you'd expect her to spin to port, but she goes to starboard and vice versa.
