Author Topic: MSC Monterey being abandonned off Canda, in danger of breaking in two.  (Read 2344 times)

BREAKING -

The 4,860 TEU MSC Monterey is in danger of breaking in two today following a reported "crack in her hull". The Master, Chief engineer and senior officers are reportedly still aboard - with all non essential crew being taken off the ship by helicopter.

At present, she is 60KM south of Portugal Cove South. The weather conditions onscene are reported to be wind speeds of between 25 and 27 knots from the NW, wave heights of between 3 to 5 metres and an ambient temperature of -7 degrees C.

UPDATE :

4 Non essential personnel have been taken off the ship via helicopter, whilst 20 remain on board carrying out damage control. She is continuing under her own power - with her destination currently unknown.

Hopefully they can either get the ship safely to port, or evacuate safely without anyone being hurt.

She's now reportedly anchored in a sheltered location, with the emergency response being handed over to Transport Canada.

luckyly it's not a tanker ship...if it broke in two, it would be very bad for Canada
