When my computers hard drive crashed i lost ship simulator '08 but i did have a backup on my external hard drive (just a copy of the vstep folder) so i copied the files onto my computer and it says "no valid ship simulator 2008 installation found"

Hi Alexander9822,
Your picture shows that there are TWO SS2008 folders present on your computer. Possibly this is your problem? Try the other one and see what happens. If that is OK then delete the other one. This is just a suggestion, but if you have the game on an external hard drive it can do no harm.

hey, it looks like there is a problem with your shortcuts I guess. You may want to make a new shortcut. it this doesnt work along with the other suggestions you may have to reinstall the game sadly
