At approximately 21:00 GMT on the 7/5/2013 the 240 metre 46,000 tonne Jolly Nero collided with the Genoa port VTS - demolishing it.
The Jolly Nero was departing the port under her own power (with the tug GENJUA escorting) when she performed a sharp port turn, crashing into the VTS tower with her bow.
The vessel's captain reported that he "lost both main engines" and "lost control of the ship".
At-least 6 people have been reported deceased - they are thought to have been trapped in a lift when the tower collapsed. 7 people have been injured.
