« on: April 04, 2013, 01:17:43 »

I bought ship simulator extremes on disk, installed and after the initializing prompt went away, it just goes to a black blank screen. Can someone please help me with this? I'd really like to enjoy this Sim

Hello, I'm brand new on this forum and I've noticed the same problem of the other user who opened the topic.
I've registered my Ship Sim Extremes in here, so can anybody help me please?

Hello MaDa87, also welcome!

Can you give us your DxDiag?
This topic describes how to make one:

You can attach that file in your response

The vlaues in the guide that you gave me (and that I've followed) are these:

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual  CPU  T3200  @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 3000MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Dedicated Memory: 64 MB
Driver Version: 8.15.0010.2202 (English)

But I've tried also on a laptop with an NVidia GT 9600 with dedicated 512 of ram with HD features and the problem still the same.
This one that I'm using (the one that I wrote the features upside) is just temporary because my own laptop is under assistance due to problems to the screen and many others.
Please can you help me? Thanks a lot for your kindly welcome to me! ;D :2thumbs:

Marked in red is what's causing the problem.
Intel mobile processors (or known as portable graphics for laptops) are not supported by SSE.
The minimum requirements for your GPU card are:
Geforce 8800GT or ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 256MB ram (Shader model 3.0)
http://www.shipsim.com/products/shipsimulatorextremes

SSE is not advised to run on a laptop as in most cases the GPU cards cannot handle the graphics.
Intel GPU's are mainly developed just for light tasks such as text editing and browsing on the internet.
In rare cases some people manage to get it working with these GPU's but this is on random occasions only and there is no knowing if it will work or not in advance.

The only solution for this is to improve your hardware or switching to a desktop computer / gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU card instead of an integrated Intel one.

So unfortunately there is no easy or cheap fix for this, but I hope this has been useful to you.

Ok, I got that.
Do you know if on a laptop with an Intel GPU with HD features it can run?
This was very useful to me, many thanks!

Try to avoid any Intel GPU's. Laptop or desktop.
Intel is a great manufacturer when it comes to CPU's as they have much experience with processors. But GPU's are not their main talent. Their GPU cards are only built for basic needs. Not gaming.

When you buy a laptop or Desktop for gaming purposes, make sure the GPU card is developed by either AMD (Radeon or Sapphire) or Nvidia.

As you know, is it possible to install an external GPU for a laptop? One that can overlap the system one, so I can use that for gaming?
Thanks a lot for your kindness and help!   :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Unfortunately not, all laptop hardware besides the RAM memory and the hard disk is integrated within the motherboard.

Decent dedicated GPU cards can have a size like this:

That wouldn't fit  ;)

Hi MaDa87, try googling "external graphics card for laptop".  ;)

Here's one: http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/how-to-make-an-external-laptop-graphics-adaptor-915616
As the article is a few years old, here's a link to the site mentioned, which seems to be more current

Whow I never guessed that could work!
I wonder what other costs you have besides the GPU card itself in order to make it all work.
Sadly I could never do that with my laptop because it doesn't have any express card slot.
