Naming Boats in Ship Simulator
« on: May 23, 2007, 22:44:01 »

Just a little suggestion that Vstep may like to consider adding before the 2008 release, I don't think it would be too difficult.  How about making it possible to give a name of our own invention to the ships in the game.

For instance the Multi-purpose Cargo Ship is called Agile Solution, we could rename it to a name of our choosing and it would appear on the ship instead.

It's really not a very important addition and it's certainly not a necessity but it's a nice touch, I think.

Well that would be pretty cool! Especialy when we can play online. Whe can name or own ships and people can identify us with this maybe?

I agree. It is not sensible to have for instance 3 cruise liners all named Ocean Star in the same mission. It should be possible to name the ships individually.

Hiya :)

The problem with this could be licensing with real-life ships.  It's doubtful the licence owners would want their pride & glory renaming.

Great idea for non-licensed ships though, I like it :D

Yeah yeah yeah...
Copyright issues and all this dirt. But if players name their player ship in the game and cannot publish the ship as an add-on that can be shared with others public on the Internet then this is a nice suggestion. ;)

indeed , i've actually thinking before how they will solve this question , like add a number after the ship name so it goes Vermaas(1) Vermaas(2) Vermaas(3) and so on , that sound pretty stupid doesn't it , I really think that it would be very good if we could name the ships in multiplayer by ourselves :)

Greetings,
I had this idea of renaming the vessels.People who are registered officialy, look if you start the game(online-mode)well,the vessel that you will steer at that time, will be automaticaly named like your nickname.
However, again i dont know if this would be possible technicaly. It's just an idea.

Hi Marc :)

It's an idea yes, but personally I would prefer another name as my username isn't really a proper ship name... I belive I'm not the only one in that situation. I'm the captain on board and no captain would ever name his ship after himself...  ;)

Greetings Jacob,
I find your name on a vessel quit nice,i realy can think that i ever have to call you like"Groennegaard, this is the vessel marcstrat behind you"your reply could be "Groennegaard is listening"my reply could be again"Hello Captain, what are your intentions..........".
I just have a very high levell of imagination,so i can hear it in my head allready.Step of the idea that it is your real name,at the time that you are playing.
Realy it would sound very good.

Take a look at my site and I bet we have a concept here that anyone can copy, so called VSC which says Virtual Shipping Company

Within a VSC you can even have sub-companies and their are all fictional. ;)
By using this VSC concept and you got some that can make the boats or re-paint the boats for you then you can place your VSC logo (just like mine) on the ship and sail it in Ship Simulator (when the game supports this feature) or get it included with new add-on packs for this game. Then we can avoid conflicts with real ship owners/companies and we get a majority of VSC fleets in the game that makes the difference. ;)

With more VSCs and with multiplayer I suppose that this game will become more rich to play.

Now I sounds like a business man maybe, but Flight Simulator is already using a similar concept called VAC - Virtual Aircraft  Companies (or only VA), so you have virtual companies of SAS, KLM...US Air Force etc.

It's up to each VSC owner how he will design his concept and what he want to afford his crew members, like own VSC missions, ships, routes or other stuff (own website maybe). My VSC is just an example that I'm still working on. I'm turning all my new buildings now into VSC ships with my logo and I have a fictional administration on board like Lord Jacky Sacky Macky, Fabina Korporate and all these bosses :D

Nobody of us have said that we will use your name or use it automatically pal!
This is just a idea for those who want to start a VSC. Nobody force anyone to do that! :P
