Anchors on "Red Eagle"?
« on: July 14, 2012, 22:33:28 »

Do any of our Ferry experts have any idea whereabouts the anchors aboard "Red Eagle" are placed? I am sure she must have anchors, but I cannot find any pictures which would indicate where they are.
I would be very grateful if someone could supply an answer to the query.

Regards,
Angus.

Hi Traddles,

Had a look at some pics, and there appears to be a hole with what looks like a bit of anchor sticking out, appears to be on both sides of the vessel (or at least on the same side, as all pics show the same side at Soton )

Hope this helps

Hi Angus i wish i knew were they were because i would have dropped them when i was on it for the P&O GRAND EVENT. Awesome sight but keep on moving just when you thought you could get all seven ships in photo we moved.
I did get all seven in the end and it was awesome 5 & half hours on board and a sight i will never forget

Hi Angus, I think TFM is right. I went looking on YouTube and found this video.
From 3:30 visible in a close-up (best watched in full screen), also clearly seen in part 2..  :)

Hi to you all,
Thank you all for your input. I think that what Johan says seems to be the correct conclusion, two anchors at each end of the vessel with large hawse holes which allow the anchors to be heaved right inside them.  I was always bothered that in both SS2008 and SSE she had no anchors.  Once again many thanks for your speedy and helpful responses.
Kind regards,
Angus.

Judging by the marks on the hawse pipes, I think the anchors are very rarely used, except in emergencies such as engine failure in mid-transit.. But I suppose it's nice to know they are there.. ;)
