Just a small suggestion. When this is an international forum and you do not have add info in your profile where in the world you live so is it impossible to know when this will take place. (According to my local time so have you posted this about 8:00 pm.) So an idea can be to tell if this is London time, New York time or any other time zone.

For the Europeans to GMT+0, 7:00 PM est would be 12:00 PM or 0:00

Alan1027, I guess this is 07:00 PM GMT on now on friday 13th of july(maybe you should change to thursday or another day, a friday and the 13th is not the best day to go to sea?).

Hm. Maybe I have looked a little too quick on wikipedia but as he said EST that would be in the US. Yes. That schould be like 6 or 7 hours behind our clock.

VirtualSkipper. Well, then I understand how you came to your conclusion. I read something else, but I think you are right. When Alan1027 only used small letters so did I read that "est" as estimated or 'estimated starting time", I did not thought over it as a timezone.

But hopefully Alan1027 can clear it up and tell which timezone he is using? When a person do not write which timezone he/she is thinking of and just write a time on an international forum and specially on a maritime one as this, I would think of the time as GMT, but this time it seems to be somewhere else.

Alan1027, thank you for explaining and telling which time you ment, now also them who do not know you know which time you are talking about. But the above is not correct, you have to write it with big letters. It is written EST. You may think that this does not matter, but it does. If you had written it with big letters in your first post, I would have understood, so you see it is a way to avoid missunderstandings. When we only have words to comunicate with and for most folks here so is english not the first language, so it is easy that there is missunderstandings.
