The "THRUSTERS"

Hi everyone 

I'm a noob sailer so I don't know how to use the thrusters motors... i.e. on the VERMAAS boat there are two thrusters on the commands interface  and I don't know how to use them :

1) is it the first on the left to move the bow or the aft  of the boat ? The other on the right does move it the aft ?

2) does the movements (left/right side) of the thrusters levers are moving the bow/aft of the boat to the same movement direction ?

3) at what speed are the thruster the more efficient ?

All your expert advice will be appreciated !

Hi!
You're right, the left lever ist for the bow thruster, the right lever is for the stern thruster. You can use them independently, which belongs to you wanted movement, like side stepping or turning on the spot for example. As in real life, such a thruster is efficient at very slow speeds. So youl will have even no effect above 5 knots.

Since the "Vermaas" is a very huge ship, you have to wait a little, until the full thrust will move the ship.

I'm trying use these thrusters to coast the VERMAAS without tug boats !

In real life I think a such boat need to be maneuvred by tugs boats in short area ... !!!

But in the game it is a challenge to coast this boat alone in docks containers area !

Welcome to the forum.
To add some advice to Michael’s concise explanation:
Ship Simulator has a wide variety of vessels with very different handling characteristics and control types. One of the purposes of Extremes is to allow you to experience and master the skills required to handle the various types.

There are some manuals available on the Missions board for the less common types—such as the Maassluis ferry and ships with azimuth drives, but to become familiar with each type I recommend spending time experimenting with it in a free-roam environment such as Marseilles that provides a lot of sea room along with land for a visual reference.

Yes, it is really a challenge to berth such a big ship without tug assistance. Nowadays it should need at least two tugs. Beside that, not many vessels of that size have bow and stern thruster.

Yes I test the manner to piloting the variety of vessel in free roam environment...This is a good way to start with !

On the web I have looked at many video wich show how to proceed of steering the VERMAAS with tugs boats  !
Very impressive  to fine steering !

Back in the 1950's I think,  the captain of the QUEEN MARY docked without the assistance of Tugs as they were all on strike. No bow thrusters then.
