RMS = Royal Mail Ship
SS = Steam Ship
MS = Motor Ship

So if a Ship has been licensed by Royal Mail to carry post it will be RMS, otherwise it will be SS or MS depending on the power source

Also there is MV = Motor Vessel

It's very logical actually. Would you see the Oasis of the Seas running on steam?  :P

That could easily be done. Steam is still one of the strongest mediums to power ship. The only thing it's very risk full
