Guys, we normally do not change usernames just for vanity reasons. Yes we did it a few times, but soon too many people were requesting it, so since then most requests, unless there was a valid reason, were denied.
Cause, and this is evident in the many private messages I have now received as a result of this topic,... if we change one person's name because he or she likes something else better... then lots of other people would want it too. And if it leads to a whole bunch of people changing names, it will just confuse things and I will have requests for it on my hands all the time because of the precedent that was set.
It's very important to think about what you name yourself before you hit that register button. And you can always make a new account if such a decision was beyond your capabilities the first time around. You'll just have to decide what is more important, your post count or your name.
but seriously.. some people have been lucky in the past, yes.. And often it was a cosmetic thing, like capitalizing a first name or removing a number from behind a name, but essentially they stayed the same name, and thus recognisable for the other members that have had dealings with them and read their posts and replies to their posts.
But completely different names will confuse things, references in posts to these names will seize to make sense as you can imagine. And since there's a whole bunch of requests due to this topic, that would get messy. So.. sorry, but unfortunately no.
And yes Dexter, I realise you only want that capital letter, but if I say no to one, I say no to all. Or it would not be fair.
Sorry guys, but there is a reason you can't change your name at will, by yourself. So I hope you all understand.
Regards,
Fred
