My Computer Keeps Freezing
« on: July 22, 2011, 13:56:34 »

For a while my computer has been freezing while. Before it freezes it makes a crackling/skipping sound and when it freezes it a sound and I have to shut it off or it has a blue screen.

You could run a check on the graphics card. If you observe that some capacitors have blown, this could be one reason. Hope you have a suitable power supply unit. Did that graphics card come originally with the Dell (I assume it's a desktop) or did you upgrade ?

1. Dell puts in a smaller supply in then is needed for the card , but they made tests and said it was fine.
2. The card is original.
3. Desktop.

In the photo below, the capacitors are the ones circled in red. If you look closely you can see they have blown. The top of the capacitors have opened out.

I hope the PSU is at least 400 Watts.
