I still say have the first ten posts moderated before showing up - simple way to deal with spammers  :)

Just FYI, this is not one person.  ;D

Afghanistan is just the first country on the list, so they default to that as their place of residence, since these dont take the time to fully fill in their profile, or, are not even able to.

Cause it's just always some spambot or otherwise semi automated attempt to get some advertising in.

The way to deal with it is as we are doing, with a special net in place to catch them. Since that went live we have caught over 4000 spammers already that no one has fortunately seen anything posted from. But the odd one that hasn't been registered anywhere yet as being a spammer, will get through.

When that happens all you can do is just take care of that one as well, and it's then added to the list of bad guys.

But please remember, this is not one guy from Afghanistan, not even 4000 guys from Afghanistan, that has nothing to do with it. It's just new attempts each time, from many many of these nasty 'people'. The country matters not.

Each one that comes through gets moderated, reported, and then gets 'the treatment', meaning a sharp stinging kick with the old steel-toed boot, but you can never keep them all out. And moderating the first ten posts, well.. that would require much more work than booting a few spammers of the forum each couple of days to be honest. Worth taking into consideration perhaps, who knows.  :)

But if everyone just reports them, then the staff will take care of it!

Regards,
Fred

That’s the reason for those funky letters that you need to recognize when registering on some sites.

I have found on some sites they make the font so odd and put so much lines on the letters  it can be hard to read

But yeah maybe a simple maths question...
