Some more Q's about SS2008
« on: May 18, 2007, 13:38:37 »

I have a few questions about SS08 that I think really MUST be in SS08 for me to concider buying

Has the AI been fixed E.G Ships move when in collision course etc?

Do the waves splash onto the deck of vessel?

and are there rogue waves?

Thanks!

Is there going to be The Perfect Storm waves and waves in harbors?

Nope! No freak waves, but rough seas. And of course not within the harbours...

And the AI-anti-collision-mode will be developed further.

Cheers

Yes they do, but not as splashing spray from the bow. Guess, thats what Captain Kool wants to see...

Also when in the bridge of the ship if you look around is there a re-align to centre button? e.g space bar so you look straight ahead.

Greetings,
I hope the game stays close to reality, normal storm weather, normal waves. You will find out very soon how hard that will be to unload your suply vessel, next to the rig,in just some normal waves.
However,i know that extremly huge waves,do exist in mid ocean.
2 vessels i know of,who had the(luck) to meet them in mid-ocean,was the QE2 and the Pasific prinsess. Now years ago.

1) Will walking IN the Titanic be possible?
2) Would we be able to walk on the stern this time?
3) What kind of multiplayer will SS08 have? Like we have all our own character where you can walk with on the decks, like on the Titanic, and that there will be more people on the Titanic and / or we all have our own boat / ship?

Thankss.

Hiya :)

I'm not sure if you've checked the official Ship Simulator 2008 site, but you can check it here (http://www.2008.shipsim.com/).  The NEW features are covered here (on the right-hand side)

The question about walking IN the Titanic has already been brought up in another post.  At the moment, there are no plans to incorporate this into the '08 version I believe.

As far as Multiplayer, some of the questions have been asked in other posts:

http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,311.0.html

As you may or may not know, the initial release of Ship Simulator 2008 will not contain Multiplayer, that is to be released at a later date as I understand it (in the form of a patch).

Regards.

Actually, come to think of it, I do remember something about a few rooms being modelled in the Titanic.  Perhaps not in SS08 or at least in some form of add on or pack.

I take it vessels and ports in SS06 and add on will still be available for the 08 version?

I also suggest when you uninstall the game it would be nice that when you re-installed it your progress was still there like on Need For Speed, I have near finnished the game when I had to uninstall it only to re-install it and find I had to redo all the missions, don't know what everone else thinks of it...

Thanks

Check the post here http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,407.msg3796.html#msg3796 this will tell you how to restore saves/progress.

As for NFS, the save directory isn't in the same location as the game installation.  It's located in the Documents & Settings area, that's why it reappears when you reinstall :)

Will there be actual wake coming off vessels? It would be pretty awesome to ride across other ships wakes...

Also, I noticed the sound seems rather bad, e.g. Slowly bump into the wall with a vessel and there's a big metal scraping 'BOOM' noise, what I'm getting to is in 2008 if any of the vessels have tyres on the outside, if you hit the wall etc could the sound be more realistic same thing goes for horn the horn's on cargo ships seem to be high pitched like the taxi................

Just a few thoughts... might be a patch idea if it's too late for initial release......

I found this pic on the Questviewer site and I was wondering if the ship in the background is a ship off SS08 if it is and it's the final version of the ship I'd be extremely disappointed... here's the URL:

I have another idea:

Time, for missions instead of having no time limit to arrive at a set place, for 2008 if we were out at sea or in a harbour we could start at 7:30am and be scheduled to dock at 8:15am if you were too late (4-5 mins is excusable) mission would abort. Would add realism and it would make challenges more challenging... possibly a patch idea if not already in the 2008 plannings...

But whilst all ships have schedules to adhere to, they don't exactly run to a timetable like a train. Having a mission abort because you were 6 mins late would wind me up no end.

Perhaps losing points for being late, maybe? Or losing points for excessive fuel usage or whatever.

Sounds like a better idea, more points for arriving on scheduled time, misssion abort would be very harsh...

Maybe if you were VERY late it could abort- with an animation showing "due to gross incompetence your head office has ordered your first officer to relieve you of command..."
