engine performance
« on: February 24, 2011, 02:01:01 »

has any one managed to obtain higher speeds in ship sim 2008 than me with these ships? photos include the speedometer to show im not lying about speed on each ship.

ocean star - my record is 25.5 knots
vermaas - my record speed is 27 knots
pride of rotterdam - my record is 22.7 knots
agile solution - my record speed is 18.8 knots
latitude - my record speed is 15.8 knots

(while this has no technical significanse its just curiosity)

Can we increase the maximum speed of the ships by editing the ship's configuration files?

MokMok, that wouldn't be wise, as it's probably not allowed unless your name's TerryRussell. Anyway, that particular hack no longer works.

Weirdly, I am definitely experiencing speed changes with changes in FPS, top speed can be decreased by several knots with decreases in FPS.

I managed 30 knot in Pride of Rotterdam
33 knots in Titanic (just  before I ran it aground!)

Would you mind to take a picture of that?

I think that those parameters have always been encoded.

McG: Severe time dilation in SS 2008 is a well-known fact, and it sets in early. As the frame rate drops below 30 FPS, the mission time runs slower than UTC, and true ship speed can drop to one half the indicated speed at low frame rates. In effect, the frame period becomes the clock.

Hmm, time travel  ::)

What about the P6 Superpack? That had a higher top speed. I get it :P

Depents on your FPS (hence, your PC specs).

By buying them, maybe? And believe me, that isn't cheap.
